Caught the mouse but...,

I give this trap 5 stars for having an effective and simple design. Within an hour of placing the trap I found our little kitchen intruder safely inside. This was a pleasant surprise, since the mouse refused to enter another trap I'd been using for 2 days.
However, since this is billed as a "humane" trap, I have to give it 1 star for the lack of ventilation. It had already started to fog up in the hour or so that it was occupied. Why is a "humane" trap designed in such a way that it will actually kill the animal if left unchecked for a relatively short period of time??? I will most definitely use this trap again should the need arise, however I plan to first put several ventilation holes in it using a small drill bit. I REALLY wish the manufacturer of this "humane" trap would address this very obvious design flaw.

We live in the country, so mice are a never ending battle in our home. I have purchase just about every humane mouse trap on the market, with limited success. Some traps the mice would not enter at all and others, the mice would simply escape after eating the snack inside. I was a bit reluctant to try these mouse cubes as they seem so simple...am I ever thankful that I did try these. The Mice Cube is by far the best humane mouse trap that I have found. They are simple to use, and amazingly effective. Another nice feature of these traps is their small size, they easily fit in a drawer or other tight space where mice like to visit. Releasing the mouse or mice from the trap is incredibly simple, you just turn the trap over and the door opens. As with any live catch trap, the trap should be checked often as captured mice need to be released as quickly as possible. To clean the traps when needed, I purchased a mop bucket from the dollar store and soak the traps in a mild bleach solution, I then rinse them well with water and after allowing them to dry, they are as good as new. I would highly recommed these traps to anyone looking for a simple, humane solution to dealing with mice in your home.

Worked every time!,

This trap worked so well for us that it would have a new mouse in it typically within the hour of setting the empty box out. We frequently caught more than one mouse in it at a time. Kinda gross, but better than having them run all over the laundry room. I never had a problem with mice NOT entering the trap or escaping once they'd gotten in. I think our biggest problem was releasing them too close to our property. I suspect some may have been coming right back in. The best, though, was when my daughter ran upstairs one morning to tell us, "Mom, we caught another mouse...and she had babies IN the trap!" Yep, Mama mouse entered the cozy trap to deliver 6 pink, squirming baby mice. Better than behind my freezer....

I've used the tilting-type humane mouse traps in the past with good success. But, I liked the idea of a clear trap that let me see the mouse before having to pick up the trap. The slanted door design seemed to be simple and well thought out. I've set one up in our basement three times in the past two days. When I've checked it, the bait was gone and the trap was empty. After the first two times, I suspected that the mouse had gotten in, panicked, and tipped the trap over. This would cause the door to fall open, enabling it to escape. So, we decided to try taping another trap to a paper plate to make sure it didn't tip. I put that setup back in the same spot in our basement storage room. Just checked it about six hours after setting it. Everything was as I left it, except for the PB and crackers. I think the fellow thinks he's a pet that I'm feeding with an odd type of food dish. Or, maybe he's laughing at me while making a nice cozy bed in my ski boots?? I took a good look at the traps. The door doesn't come close enough to the wall. The gap is probably large enough for a mouse's little fingers to grab and pull. Maybe some aren't clever enough to do this, but ours seems to have no problem escaping. All of the traps seemed to have the same issue. Sorry, great idea, but the product needs some tweaking.

Effective, safe for homes with children, and humane!,

We live out in the country, and the mice are starting to come inside now to stay warm as the weather gets cooler outside. We were given some of these traps to use, and are so grateful to have them! In just the three days since we put these out, we have caught seven different mice, the last five of which were caught without even putting any bait in the traps! We just put the traps where we have seen the mice and they got caught while exploring.
We have a small child, so knew that we didn't want to put out poison, glue traps, or the spring-loaded traps, so these have provided us a very effective means for trapping mice while not putting our daughter in jeopardy. The only concern about these is that it is hard to clean them out well after the mice leave droppings in them, but we are just rinsing them out well with the garden hose before bringing them back into the house, and then wiping down the outside surfaces with disinfectant wipes. Our daughter is constantly supervised, so that should do the trick for us, to prevent her from getting access to any germs the mice leave behind. I would definitely recommend these traps to anybody with a mouse problem, especially to those with small children or pets who could be harmed by some of the more traditional methods of handling the problem. And the fact that these traps are no-kill is, of course, a good thing too; just be sure to take the mice far enough away from the house before releasing them! In fact, we have had such luck with these traps that we will be getting more as soon as we can! These things are great!

Bye Bye Little Mouse!,

I had a block fence built in my back yard, and the next thing you know my house has a mouse! A bold little creature that popped out of the eye of my stove! Yuck!!!! I went to the store and bought the sticky paper. I put it down and the mouse ran across it several times I saw it's footprints! So back to the store I went I found a Decon trap that the mouse goes in it spins around and closes the door. Huh that one didn't work either the mouse went in ate the peanut butter and left. So I went back to the store I was going to get the old fashioned snap his neck trap, but I didn't want to deal with that and I have 2 dogs that would love to play with the mouse, yuck again. I found the Mice Cube went home & put them where I had seen droppings and the mouse, I put peanut butter in the trap. I wiped a little on the door and then off so it left the scent of peanut butter. I bought 4 of these put them out one night and in the morning I had caught 6 mice! I swear by these they work fantastic! I thought I had a mouse no I had many mice. I kept putting these out and caught 19 mice total. Now I keep them out and move them around to different parts of the house to make sure I don't have this problem ever again. My friend who is an exterminator told me that if you actually see a mouse you have 10. If you see droppings you may have 2 or 3. Wow was he right. Buy these you wont regret it!

These did eventually work, but I did feed the nice several nights before catching them. Our mice might have been tricky, but they got two cookies free and clear. Another night they managed to push the trap off the counter and flip it over and of course get the cookie. Finally, though we outwitted them and the mouse was trapped. The trap held up to all of the abuse.
My son also decided that they were perfect leprechan traps. Alas they didn't work and only managed to catch a four leaf clover:) The family really did enjoy using the humane traps and checking to find out if we had caught anything. Releasing them into the forest was a fun adventure for them. I can't imagine using a trap that killed the little guys. They were pretty cute. We did have to hold firm on not turning the mice into pets though.

Too Cruel,
This review is from: Mice Cube 4 Pk - Reusable Humane Mouse Trap (Kitchen)
We live out in the country with pasture all around, so we get plenty of field mice that try to get into the house in the winter when temps drop below freezing. Some of them succeed. This trap catches them fast. The trick is to smear a very thin film of peanut butter outside the door. I mean REALLY thin. Invisible. So there's not enough there for the mouse to actually eat. That fires up their little appetites and they can't resist going all the way in to get the little cracker with the peanut butter on it. Put the trap down on the floor with one side against the wall, which reduces the options for the mouse to simply go around it. But here's the problem: there's very little ventilation when the door closes behind them. They pee and poop in the trap and it's a mess after an hour or so. Condensation forms on the walls and the mouse looks all wet and it's panting for oxygen and it's fairly horrible. God forbid you forget to check it for a whole day. That happened to me twice. I simply forgot to check the trap for a day. Both times, the mouse inside was in horrible shape. Better it should have died quickly in a snap trap. They barely managed to crawl out of the traps when I "released" them. (I actually just dumped them out. I don't even want to describe how bad they looked.) I then tried the green "smart mouse house" traps (or whatever they're called). Much better! Plenty of ventilation, more room inside. The mouse doesn't have to stand in its own excretia all day if I forget to check the trap. Much better. If you can check the cube traps every few hours, then I guess they're ok. But if not, it would be kinder to just use a snap trap -- although sometimes you can set a snap trap and it disappears and you wonder what happened. So I just stick with the green traps now.

Works, but slightly disgusting,
This review is from: Mice Cube 4 Pk - Reusable Humane Mouse Trap (Kitchen)
I have several of these. They do, in fact, catch mice very well.
However, they are a long, solid box of plastic, no ventilation or removable parts. When a mouse gets caught, it urinates and defecates all over the inside of the container. You can then subsequently let the mouse go, but the inside of the container is very difficult to clean out. A removable door on the other side or something would have been really nice. for cleaning. Still - I have yet to find a more effective individual live trap, so I'd recommend it.

I see that these traps apparently work for others, but they definitely don't work for us. We have four of them set around the house, all with good bait (crackers with peanut butter, cheese, bread, we've tried it all). We've caught nary a mouse. The bait doesn't even appear to have been touched in any of them.
We've had really good luck with the Smart Mouse Trap - Humane Mousetrap, but wanted to give these a shot since you get four of these for the price of one of the green traps. I so wanted these to work since they were so much cheaper, but it seems like it's been money wasted. I wish I knew what the difference was or what we're doing wrong! Maybe our mice are just too smart. =) We definitely recommend the Smart Mouse Trap, though. Just weight the latch down with a few pennies and you're good to go. We caught eight mice in one week with that ONE trap, but have caught zero mice in three months with these four traps. |
