5.0 out of 5 stars Rhymes and Bright Pictures Make This Book a Hit, June 24, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Mice Squeak, We Speak (Hardcover)
"Mice Squeak, We Speak" is one of the first books my son started to reach for and request that I read to him. It is one he can listen to over and over--and, fortunately, it's fun for me to read aloud to him.

Each animal sound is introduced with a simple two-word sentance and a colorful, full-page drawing of the animal. The rhythmic, rhyming passages, coupled with the fact that the pages are turned quickly (no more than four words per two-page spread) make this a favorite for early listeners or readers.

I highly recommend this book for young children to introduce them to listening to and reading books.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK TO TEACH ANIMAL SOUNDS, July 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mice Squeak, We Speak (Hardcover)
This is a wonderfully illustrated book filled with animal sounds that children can learn and read along with the reader. The audio tape is also wonderful...the children love to listen to this story while in the car or before bed, even w/o the book. My kids love it! Our school is going to use this book as one of the curriculum books for the school year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, May 12, 2006
By
This review is from: Mice Squeak, We Speak (Paperback)
This is one of the best books about animal sounds ever written. I teach 2 year olds at a daycare center and this is the only book they will sit through from beginning to end. This book even has the other teachers impressed when they peak in my room and the toddlers are all sitting at attention. We read it nearly every day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended., December 12, 2005

Tomie diPaola's absolutely gorgeous illustrations carry this simple animal-sounds poem to the next level. I like the inclusion of the animal world beyond the barnyard - there are dozens of books informing children that ducks quack and cows moo, but this one includes howling coyotes, creaking crickets, squawking parrots, and chattering monkeys. My 8-month-old adores this book and turns the pages eagerly to see which animals come next.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasure to Read, July 6, 2003
By A Customer
I began reading this book to my daughter when she was 19 months old. Before about that age, she had said very little, mostly animal sounds. Then suddenly, speaking was all that interested her. So this beautiful poem seemed a triumphant expression of her newly discovered voice: "I talk!" A month of very frequent (on request) readings later, my daughter helps by "reading" all the verbs. I think this might be my favorite of her books. It appeals to both her toddler aesthetic and my grown-up one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of enjoyment, September 7, 2002
With restrained colors, this board book is a fun poem to read aloud, with plenty of ways to expand upon the story. Cute drawings, plenty of opportunities to make animal sounds. For example, "Crickets Creak / Mice Squeak / Sheeps Baa/ BUT I SPEAK.... Horses Neigh / .. BUT I SAY... / Parrots Squawk / BUT I TALK"

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, September 22, 2001

This review is from: Mice Squeak, We Speak (Paperback)
The three children are absolutely adorable. The animals are cute. The word bites in this book are short and to the point. This is a great book for toddlers and early pre-readers. It can easily keep the attention of both of my children. I enjoy reading this book to my children and have yet to get tired of it. Certainly, this book is a good addition to your child's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irresistable!, July 3, 2001

This review is from: Mice Squeak, We Speak (Paperback)
My child loved this book when it was first introduced it to him at 18 months; now he's nearly three and still asks for it, again and again. The patterns of brief, rhymng phrase bites in this book are as appropriate for toddlers' short attention spans as they are for beginning readers' budding skills. Soft, vibrant illustrations feature children from three ethnic backgrounds delighting in the vocal utterances of animals-human and otherwise. Some sounds are predictable, others are surprising, but all have universal appeal and are presented in an irresistible, unforgettable way.
