5.0 out of 5 stars an enduring work
Having spent some time myself as a photographer in this city, I love this book. It captures a mood about the streets of Banaras, particularly at night and around the burning ghats which I have not seen in other work. This is a book that deserves to be more widely recognized.

the editing for this book is not the best --some of the images should have been excluded
there are some very strong images here but the editor should have gathered a larger body of work from the photographer before producing this book

4.0 out of 5 stars one of the best, December 24, 2010

One of the best photography books ever I guess; though the sequence of the pictures is not perfect and sometimes leaves you dubious, the pictures themselves are literally amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Le Prix Nadar à "End Time City" de Michael Ackerman, November 17, 1999
