Book Description

April 22, 1999 Michael Brein's Guides to Sightseeing By Public Transportation
Michael Brein's Guide to Barcelona by the Metro shows travelers how to go to Barcelona's top 50 visitor attractions by metro, rail, tram, and bus. The guide shows which transit to use, which lines to take, which stops to board and exit at, and, using about 30 detailed mini-area-walking maps, shows exactly how to walk from these stops right to the visitor attractions. Additional nearby points of interest are also indicated on these mini-maps. An ultra-large (very easy to read) official map of Barcelona s transit system is also provided. The Barcelona guide is concise, compact, and comprehensive and fits in your pocket (leave the bulky books back in the hotel room!). Michael Brein s Barcelona guide is part of the world's first and only travel guide series specifically designed to show travelers how to sightsee the top 50 visitor attractions by public transportation in a variety of the world's most visited cities.

#Sightseeing like the locals. U-Bahn, tram, underground, metro, bus ... sometimes the best way to see a city is by public transportation. Michael Brein's maps include public transit routes and directions to the top 50 points of interest in cities around the world ...# --United Airlines Hemispheres Magazine

Another most unusual and also very clever guidebook to come into the marketplace, is "Sightseeing by Public Transportation." In all my years in travel, I've seen some offbeat things, but when I got a copy I was hooked, fascinated and wondered why no one's done this before. -- On the Road with John Clayton, July 16, 1999

For those who want to know where a subway will take them, there is a new series of city public transit maps packed with information. --The New York Times

Know Before You Go with $5 Transit Guides. Detailed maps of public transit systems are often hard to come by until you reach a destination. The guides cost $5 each and include a list of a city's 50 most popular places, as well as walking maps. The big maps are the schematics used by the cities themselves. The series began with the Oahu bus system. The publisher, Michael Brein, has added London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Madrid, Munich, Prague and Sydney. Amsterdam, Washington, D.C. and Vienna will be added this spring. -- San Jose Mercury News, January 16, 2000

Off the Map. If you want to get to know a city like a local, it helps to travel like one, and free public transit maps don't tell you how to get to the fun stuff. For $5, try one of Michael Brein's double-duty city transit maps. -- New York Post, August 24, 1999

Sightseeing by Public Transportation Map Series. Assiduous and budget-minded trip- planners might want to include these maps as reference materials for their next trip -- San Francisco Examiner, August 9, 1998

There are good maps of the subway system in all Metro stations, this map is so big unfolded that it's very inconvenient. You might use it at home to get familiar with what's what, but it's not useful when you're actually on the subway system. better to buy a Good Guide book like Dorling Kindersley Travel Guides: Barcelona and Catalonia, it has a metro map in it, and lists subway stops for major tourist sites. Subway maps are available online from the Official Barcelona metro authority. Download a nice 8x11 map that will fit in your pocket. Free.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, June 23, 2000
This review is from: Michael Brein's Guide to Barcelona by the Metro (Michael Brein's Guides to Sightseeing by Public Transportation) (Michael Brein's Guides to Sightseeing ... to Sightseeing By Public Transportation) (Map)
For my recent trip to Europe I purchased this map and another for Prague after seeing the high praise for them. Was I disappointed! I was in Prague for four days and Barcelona three. These so called maps only confused me. I would not have purchased them if I had been able to preview them beforehand. Unless you already know the layout of the streets like the back of your hand, these maps will only serve to confuse. Many tourist kiosks sell much better maps with metro info and street layouts for less than a dollar. Again, unless you already know the city very well you would have to have another city map just to help you figure out Brein's map. After my miserable experience with these maps I can only say that the high praise I've seen for these maps is more than a little suspect. Calm down now, Polly, just changing your cage!

As with the Madrid guide and map, this product is way outdated--1999 publishing date. No way of knowing how much is crurrent without crosschecking other guides/sources.
