5.0 out of 5 stars Great solidly built teakettle!
I love this teakettle. I have had it for several months and it is darn near perfect. I love the generous size and the loud whistle. For those of us who are absent minded about leaving a teakettle on the stove, this is perfect. Warning - the whistle is loud - the first time I used the kettle, the whistle startled me!

I purchased this kettle because it looked cool, but that is what you are paying more money for. It doesn't have any additional features other than its unique appearance, which frankly, looks more appealing on the web than in my kitchen.

Another review mentioned that you have to put your hand in the path of the steam to flip the spout open - not a problem. Once the teakettle is removed from the heat the steam ceases almost immediately and the spout can be safely flipped open.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical Whistling Tea Kettle, December 28, 2002

This review is from: Michael Graves Design™ Spinner Whistle Teakettle
I purchased this tea kettle for my sister for Christmas this year. She loved it, and so did I. In fact, I love her tea kettle so much, I'm going to buy one for myself! The kettle has a nice, heavy feel to it, the hand is ergometric, so it is easy to pick up the pot, even when it is full. The whistle is nice and loud, but not piercing or annoying. On top of all that, the kettle is cute! The colors are great, and the little spinner gadget that is activated by the steam makes it fun to boil water! If you want to have a good quality tea kettle that is bright and cute and makes you smile, then you can't go wrong with this one!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but doesn't last., August 19, 2006

We recieved this kettle as a wedding gift in 2004. I registered for it (and all the other cute Michael Graves things) at Target. For the first year or so, the kettle worked beautifully. It heated up water quickly and was easy enough to clean, and I loved the design and the comments that it elicited from guests. Last winter I was going to make a cup of tea when the phone rang and it was a call that I had to be on for insurance purposes - the kettle began to whistle and I had to let it whistle for about 5 minutes before I could get off the phone and go get to it. I'm not sure how or why, but ever since that incident, the spinner has not spun when the kettle whistled. This was no big deal, as I don't sit around and watch the spinner, but it was a little disappointing nonetheless.

Well, it's about 9 months after that, and I noticed just the other day that the welding at the spout joint is leaking water. A constant, steady but slow drip is coming out of it! How sad!

My husband and I really liked this kettle, but it hasn't even lasted two years. We'll probably be replacing it with an OXO or Calphalon one. It looks pretty enough, but the quality and longevity just isn't there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!, February 20, 2005

I bought and returned 6 different tea kettles because the whistle was not loud enough and in some cases almost non-existant. I want to be able to hear it from another room (particularly my home office). I was afraid to get this because of some negative safety reviews. But since people said the whistle was good, I decided to take a chance. I love it. The whistle is wonderful. Water stays warm. Comfortable to pick up and pour. All tea kettles I returned had same safety warnings. So the people who said they burned themselves pouring it into a cup (which they shouldn't be holding) or don't like putting it off the burner for a few seconds before pouring should develop new habits. I haven't had any problems pouring from it. Push up the spout from the back, not the front and you won't feel the steam. Use the spout and not the spinner and the spinner won't break. There is no reason to not love this kettle. If I had a gift to get for a shower or something, I would get this. It's great to use and also looks great (I love watching the spinner). Best tea kettle I've ever had.

5.0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC tea kettle!, October 28, 2004

This review is from: Michael Graves Design™ Spinner Whistle Teakettle
We've had this tea kettle for over a year now and love it! The handle never gets too hot to hold for starters . . . and of course one must be careful flipping the whistle, but we've never had any problem with the steam or getting burned. My husband liked this one so well that we ordered it for my brother and his family when we spent time at their home this past summer! It's cute, original, novel and quite functional! The only thing I was disappointed in were the muted colors; I was expecting bright red/blue and yellow, but I'd buy it again!

ADDED 2-13-11: My stepson ruined my first one by boiling it dry. We finally found and bought a second that we have been using for years. It is still very functional, and the above review still stands!

Beautiful design, Hell on your fingers. Why don't designers actually use the products they design? If they had heated this tea kettle up, then pushed the spout down to open, they would have discovered their finger lands on the really hot spout. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

This is the best Teakettle I have ever had and I have had several. It is so easy to pour and with the stay cool handle, you don't need a pot holder. I have had ones that whistled louder but none that comes close to this one overall. I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and performance, April 21, 2004
This review is from: Michael Graves Design™ Spinner Whistle Teakettle
This is one great tea kettle. As an experienced tea drinker, I have, during the last 20-odd years, used many kettles, and this is definitely my favorite. It has a fun, artisic design, the whistle is pleasantly light but perfectly audible, and the kettle has an adequate capacity to fill a large tea pot (which is important to me!) Great value for this low price. I highly recommend it :)
