3.0 out of 5 stars EXPECTED MORE
I had hoped for more pictures, larger pictures, and more color pictures. The detailed chronicled tidbits of his life and career saved this book, although it did miss a couple of well known events. I won't be pre-ordering anything else until I read other reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Facts About the Book!!!, February 2, 2002
The Michael Jackson: The Visual Documentary is the most comprehensive book ever published on the King of Pop. Michael Jackson himself has recommended this book - mentioning it in the sleeve notes of his HIStory - Past, Present and Future Book 1 album. Covering from the birth of Michael Jackson upon to the present day, the book provides a complete record of Michael Jackson's moves, grooves, music, albums, family, history, and more. Illustrated with hundreds of photographs, the book also details Jackson's records, concerts, videos, awards, interviews, quotes, public appearances, his family, fascinating memorabilia and details of rare Michael Jackson records, and much more. From Steeltown to Motown, from the Jackson 5 to his solo career, from The Wiz to Thriller, he's been Bad, Smooth and Dangerous and even Blood On The Dance Floor. He's made captivating videos, with exciting dance moves, played spectacular concerts and filled the world's largest arenas across the world. He has been performing since the age of five, breaking records since he was 11 and a star without equal since 21. He has been such a great influence on music history over the past 30 years and with this book, you can be part of his journey from birth to present (full with dated details). Though never far from the media spotlight, Michael Jackson remains an enigma. The Michael Jackson: The Visual Documentary presents all the facts about Michael as never before -- everything you need to know about world's most famous celebrity is in this one book. The book contains over 200 pages, over 280 photos, promo pictures, rare pictures, complete discography, singles information, family tree information, and much more. The complete history of Michael Jackson.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best MJ books ever, August 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just received my book in the mail and it is alot better than I expected. It is not another biography novel about MJ at all. It's more like a fun, illustrated Michael Jackson encyclopedia. There are tons of pictures in the book including pictures of him, his videos, magazine covers, and more. Most, if not all, the pages have photos on them with a caption to tell what the photo is. The book starts in 1968 (when he entered the music industry) up until 2009. The book timelines his entire life of significant dates year to year. The book is truly amazing and I recommend it for anybody. Michael suggested the "Visual Documentary" books himself in his "HiStory" sleeve. It's the perfect addition in any collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything about Michael Jackson is in this book, August 3, 2009
This is the book that all Michael Jackson fans must have. This is a beautiful documentary book with the facts only. No tabloid gargage about his personal life, but everything from his early years to his sad, untimely end. Michael Jackson was and is a legend. I love Michael Jackson and I miss him. He will never be forgotten. His music and legacy will live on through me. He will always, always forever be the King of Pop and the world's greatest enterainer and humanitarian.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Special and Must Have Book For Anyone Interested in MJ, December 21, 2009

This is a wonderful book full of pictures and detailed information about Michael's life organized by each year of his life and by specific months and dates in his life. For example, on July 13, 1988 Michael visited sick children at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and three days later on the 16th he performed a sell-out concert at Wembley stadium which Prince Charles and Princess Diana attended. This book has a lot of other information about Michael's concerts, his album releases, his charitable acts, the important events/award shows he attended, major milestones in his life, and a lot more. What's really special about this book is all the rare, specific details that it gives about Michael's life like that he and his company, MJJ Productions, provided over 200 turkey dinners for families in Los Angeles at the end of 1991. The book even lists all the important magazine covers that Michael appeared on in his life by year and month and it very helpfully even tracks the sales progress of Michael's albums and singles by date (did you know that the album "Thriller" sold 700,000 extra copies following Michael's Pepsi commercial burn accident back in January 1984?). All the important parts of Michael's life are covered in this book starting from his birth, the Jackson 5 years, the 80s, the 90s, and so on. I really love the timeline/encyclopedia-like format of this book. Nice, quality pictures are spread throughout the book along with occasional quotes from Michael on the side and even his tour dates, album song listings, and other little goodies are included throughout. The book was updated this year to include information about his passing.

Adrian Grant, the writer or compiler of this book, was a good friend of Michael Jackson and his admiration, respect, and love of Michael Jackson absolutely shows up in this very thorough and well put together book.

To me, this is a must have book for people who want to know more about Michael Jackson and his incredible musical accomplishments as well as his equally impressive and neverending charitable contributions to the world. If you really want to know more about Michael Jackson the man (not the one the tabloids have created), this is a great place to start. I highly recommended this book for all collectors and fans of Michael Jackson (there is something here in this book for everyone). This is definitely one of the most important and valuable items that I own in my MJ collection and I don't think that any MJ fan should be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Authorized Tribute to the King of POP, September 6, 2009

I LOVE THIS BOOK. I received it in the mail the other day and just could not put it down. This is what you call a "Coffee Table" book. Meaning, you want everyone to know you have read it and you want to leave it on the table for others to pick up and enjoy. Just tell them, they can't take it with them, it must stay where they found it, on the coffee table. There are 280 pages and the book has lots of black & white photos and color photos. There is a lot of information that I didn't know and I have been a Michael Jackson Fan for over 25 years. The book does start from when Michael was born August 29, 1958 and goes all the way to July 7, 2009, the Memorial at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. There are photos, interviews, Concert listings, letters from President Reagan and the blog from Lisa Marie Presley. There are dates like (March 20, 1988), this is through the whole book. Nothing is left out. Adrian Grant did good on this one. He even did the HIStory Book, I have that one too. Go get yours today. Your coffee table is waiting.

4.0 out of 5 stars NOT a "visual" documentary, October 20, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am changing my vote of 2 stars to 4 stars because since writing the initial review, Amazon has changed the book's description which now DOES accurately reflect the content. If you are looking for a chronological and factual time line of MJ's achievements and the size and quality of photos are not that important to you, then this is the book to get. If you are looking for a good VISUAL accounting of MJ's career and achievements, then this is NOT the book for you. Many of the photos in this book I have seen in other publications (print and web) so do not understand why this book was unable to reproduce all high quality photos. Thus, the 4 stars instead of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good!, December 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Adrian Grant does Michael justice by being so accurate and true!
I know that they have been friends for quite a while but that doesn't change a thing. Grant is a very good writer and I'm happy that some people can really accept the fact that Michael has always been/ was /is /will always be / the greatest entertainer ever! As Liz Taylor has said: Larger than life!!!!!!!!!!!!
And,yes, of course, I recommend this book! A+
