5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!, April 8, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Jackson: The Visual Documentary (Paperback)
This book is great! Well researched and written, it's the best MJ book I've read. The book not only covers his life from his berth to his marriage to Lisa Marie, but it also contains transcripts of his most famous speeches! It has a marvelously written introduction and ends with a full page photo of him and Lisa Marie. Not just a timeline, but a tribute! This book was very fun to read and I think its a true must for any MJ fan (heck, any music fan), young and old alike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY GOOD BOOK, July 29, 2009
"MICHAEL JACKSON: A VISUAL DOCUMENTARY" BY ADRIAN GRANT IS A PRETTY GOOD BOOK AND VERY ENJOYABLE. HOWEVER, SOME OF THE TOUR DATES ARE INCORRECT, BUT I FORGIVE MR. GRANT FOR THIS. THIS BOOK PORTRAYED MICHAEL JACKSON IN A VERY POSITIVE LIGHT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You Adrian Grant!, April 21, 2010
Up until the time I read this book I was pretty certain that all volumes written about Michael Jackson would be rife with constant speculation and gossip surrounding his personal behavior. Adrian Grant saught to change this. In the introductory forward to this volume he writes his manifesto how he intends for this book only to focus on Michael's general accomplishments and his musical triumphs. The book is filled with tons of great color and black & white photos for sure but is also highly detailed in terms of his musical history. It traces Michael from his birth in Gary Indiana to the events of the late 90's. Even though his musical history is all too open a book this album has a lot of information people might not be aware of,particularly about how the press received him as a musical entity at various points in his career as well as including snippets of the rare interviews Michael gave over the years. I read this during the time I was getting very heavily into his music and this magazine really helped me in learning about some all too forgotton and career defining albums with his brothers, including somewhat neglected chestnuts such as Get It Together and Goin' Places. Also covered here are chart statistics and important tour information regarding the concerts with his brothers and later solo. A good portion of this book covers all the fuss involving the 1984 Victory Tour,an event which almost deserves it's own book all together. The situation got so mixed up Michael decided to nonate all tour profits to charity and his decision to give an 11 year old girl VIP treatment to one of the concerts due to a corrupt promotional system that led her to writing him and his promoters as being "just out for money". A lot of elements of his character come out in these facts that illustrate a different side of him than his common public persona seemed to have revealed. We see a man who was deeply concerned about his public image at one point and wanting to give his all to the people who loved and cared about his music most. There are also some interesting notes regarding how different received Michael was over time as even Rolling Stone magazine very harshly denounced his 1987 album Bad,even going as far as stating it as "the years most unwelcome comeback". Until reading this book I never realized how Michael, even at his hugest point in popularity and acclaim was still given some rather harsh slips such as this. For people searching for a comprehensive and entertaining book regarding Michael Jackson's fabulous rise to superstardom as a musical icon than this is very much the book for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every MJ fan should own this book, February 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Jackson: The Visual Documentary (Paperback)
A GREAT book! When I bought it I read it non-stop 'til I'd read it all. Very interesting. No tabloid junk, only facts. Tells what MJ has done day by day. Not going into his private life, only things that the public has to do with. I have to say, except for Moonwalk and Dancing The Dream (both by MJ), this is my fave book about the man.
