4.0 out of 5 stars A Soulful Sax Player, September 23, 1999

Though little is known of Michael Lington among smooth jazz fans, this cd can be compared with any of the works by renowned artists like Dave Sanborn, Koz, Boney James and Chris Boti. Try the cd and you will like every song on it especially "The Morning After", "l Sing My Song" and his collaboration with Bobby Caldwell on "Tell it like it is". l bought the cd on experimental basis and l've never looked back.

My local smooth jazz station added HARLEM NOCTURNE to its playlist recently and I had to get my hands on a copy of this CD, not realizing it was out of print. The whole album is fantastic. Michael Lington has a really reedy, rich tone to his sax that I love. It is very distinct, unlike a lot of the other current crop of sax players who all seem to meld together and are difficult to distinguish.I haven't taken this off my CD deck yet and definitely will add more of his works to my collection.

First heard Michael play/caress the sax in Michael Bolton's band. He is fantastic. His "Heat" CD is even better than this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Michael Lington..., March 31, 2010

Having first heared the man from his "Stay With me" album, I decided to dig in for more. I bought the 3 CD box, with Vivid, Heat, and Michael Lington, after a long anticipated wait, the package finally arrived, and by the way this is my first purchase at Amazon.com. Firstly I must say, the CD box was excellent, it was what I have hoped for, but not what I have expected. Three separate albums, in separate jewel cases, WOW! I opened the packaging and started with Michael Lington. At first I could not really get the music, had to skip a lot of songs, then moved on to vivid, then Heat.

I must say though that this CD is germ. I had to listen to it for the second time thought, and the music sounded fresh, something more like the early Gerald Abright, with some traces of the early David Sanborn. This is not the best CD by Michael, Vivid has more momerable tracks, and Heat in my oppinion, was the best of the three. If you want your first CD by Michael, then I'd suggest you start with "Stay With Me"
