4.0 out of 5 stars New York's Alright If You Like Singer/Songwriters, June 21, 2005
This review is from: Michael Maxwell (Audio CD)
First off, anyone who recognized the obvious Fear song title rip-off probably should'nt be reading this because ya might not understand.
If you like stuff like the real gritty Alejandro Escovedo, not-too-drunk Paul Westerberg, not-too-glam'd up Jesse Malin (who's 1st solo disc is ALWAYS in my car CD player while his D-Generation stuff lurks in my DJ CD case) and, if yer lucky, the new Mario Escovedo (ex-Dragons singer/guitar slinger) solo stuff, which no one's heard except for a few very fuggin lucky San Diegans, you will absolutely LOVE this CD! (sorry I was a bit long-winded but run-on sentences are my specialty).
Saw this guy and his terrific backing band (couple of ex-Pure Rubbish kids and an old bassmaster buddy of mine from Queens) at some dump in North Houston called the Side Car Cafe last October and they kicked my already-been-kicked-many-times arse with their 'sneak-up on you and pummel yer weak skull' attack. Usually something's gotta really knock me over with either a double Gibson attack and some heartfelt vocals or the singer sliding down the bar with the mic still in his hand & chicks slapping his arse and face, but these guys kill ya with such a build-up of emotion (NOT emo, jerks!) and skill that if ya don't notice then yer too drunk and should be thrown out with yer loser girlfriend! Nuff said...
Can't believe someone's selling this for $1.20 but I guess he/she wants to trade in for the latest Warped Band CD. Buy it...it's worth more in postage than you'll ever know!
