Absolutely Brilliant., June 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
"Michael McDermott" is a brilliant album that ranks among my all-time favorites by any artist. It combines Springsteen-like storytelling with the spiritual searching of Van Morrison, and most amazingly, does it in a way that is uniquely Michael McDermott. His songs contain a lyrical intelligence and depth that is not only rare in contemporary music, but also stand among the best that I have ever heard. The insightful lyrics are matched with unusually rich musical arrangements to create songs which touch the soul; songs of struggle and hope, regret and redemption, longing and surrender. Stephen King, in the liner notes for the album, captures what I want to say better than I can: "I'm always startled by the inability of words to express how good really good rock and roll music can be, but I always know it when I hear it. . . and besides, words are all I have. So let me say it simple: Michael McDermott is a great artist, and this is a great album. Listen and see if you don't agree."

A Musical Cornicopia Of Emotion, May 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
Michael McDermott is simply nothing short of a genius. From the haunting chimes of "Bells" to the unbelieveble hidden track,"#45", Michael puts his heart and soul into every last breath and note. He also played 90% of the instruments on this album. When EMI folded and left him out to dry it was just another said story of a music company who had no idea what they were doing or what they had in their artists...It makes me sick. I don't understand how you cannot listen to this CD and disagree. I hear that he is with a local bar band in Chicago called Pawn Shop. If there are any label exces reading these reviews, I suggest you get off your sorry asses and go sign and promote this guy. If you can't see what we are talking about, then I blame your bosses for giving you your jobs....

Flawless, May 21, 1999

I totally agree with the other review. I worked for the label back when Gethsemane came out and was horrified that the label did absolutely nothing to promote him!!! He is a musical genius, and every song touches something in me. On top of everything else he is a geniune beautiful person. I have truly been blessed knowing this man. I am eagerly awaiting anything new!!!!

One word..."Genius".(Period!), April 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
This album is a beautiful work of art, from start to finish. The songwriting is incredible. The man is incredible. The album is incredible...another incredible thing is that this guy no longer has a record deal and is sitting home in Chicago! EMI folded and left Michael without a label. The fact that more people are not tuned in to this artist and his work is a crying shame! If there is such a thing as the "perfect record" then this is it!!!

PAY ATTENTION, December 17, 2005
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
STEPHEN "For God's Sake" KING wrote the liner notes for this CD! It's like reading the ultimate fan letter. Imagine that you are a struggling artist snd you get a little note from the biggest selling popular author in the world! Enough with the fancy punctuation; Michael's music sings for itself. Buy any of his cd's and be happy.

All Of Michaels albums are top notch releases. He has a real genius for outstanding lyrics much like springsteen. The music is always powerful and moving whether it is a hard hitting rocking song or a ballad. He is simply outstanding and greatly under-appreciated. Five(5) stars all the way!!!

We Miss you Michael, June 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
I have been to 10 or so Michael McDermott live performances and have all of his CD's. I was originally introduced to Michael McDermott by people who told me he was a poor man's Bruce Springsteen. Being a huge Springsteen fan, I felt I needed to see for myself. Michael is not a poor man's Springsteen, but I can see where the comparisions have come from. Michael writes, plays and performs with the passion and truth that is SO rare in todays music. The Catholic undertones and messages, along with the vivid story-telling make his lyrics some of the best I've heard. The music is pure and his voice is full of so much passion. Listening to Michael's CD's or better yet seeing him live has always been a moving experience. I wish some record label would give this guy another chance and get his name out there, he is sure to be a great success.

Amazing..., August 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
This is simply one of the most phenomenal albums I've ever listened to, it's too bad the label went under. McDermott's lyrics, both on this album and his others, are some of the best in modern music.

The Best Is Yet To Come!, July 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael Mcdermott (Audio CD)
Michael McDermott has just completed his 4th CD on his own label. If someone from Amizon reads this please make sure you records are updated. The distributor is (MAD) Midwest Artists Distribution. The CD is called "Bourbon Blue" and is by far the best piece of work yet. The CD is on Michaels own label "Wanted Man Music." He recorded in Chicago with his own band. No IN STUDIO PRO's that the record company hired. The band members that helped create these songs and has true emotions invested into these songs. I am a fan and friend and with Amizon and Michael...who needs a label. "Bourbon Blue" was just released on 7/20/99. This is a solid 5 stars and the CD will speak for itself!
