Book Description

December 5, 1998
True story of an American soldier who was court-martialed for refusing to: wear the United Nations blue beret, to deploy on an illegal deployment; to serve under an illegal chain of command. Army Specialist Michael New is guilty - of loving his country. For that, he became the first American ever tried and convicted of wanting to serve his country in its own uniform! This book addresses as-yet unresolved issues between the USA/UN, and the Executive/Legislative relationship of the US government, according to one Federal District Judge. Must reading for the veteran, for active-duty military personnel, for those considering enlistment.

It is a sympathetic documentary of the controversial case explaining why an American soldier would choose court- martial and possible prison rather than place a United Nations patch on his uniform. This case is working its way through military and civilian courts to the Supreme Court, where the question must ultimately be decided - can American citizens be forced, against their will, to serve any foreign power, including the United Nations? This is a fundamental issue of freedom that cuts across political and ideological lines. Even though the story was largely ignored by the mainstream press, Michael New enjoys support from the left and the right, from Democrats and Republicans, from civilians and military personnel, including many officers who say their future careers depend on the way this case is finally decided. If there were ever an AMERICAN issue, this is it. This may well be the last trench where American sovereignty will be ultimately decided.

5.0 out of 5 stars Michael New: Americanist, Constitutionalist, Christian, Hero, November 1, 2000

Mark Santelman (Nashua, New Hampshire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Michael New: Mercenary or American Soldier? (Paperback)
Everytime I research books on Amazon purported to be conservative or 'right-wing', I always find critical reviews to be anonymous. Perhaps Amazon should review it's review policy.

With that said I will tell you who I am; I live in New Hampshire, served in the Army and have actually met Michael New. Michael New is a humble, honorable and decent American who, through homeschooling, actually learned about America's history and its Constitution. Which is unlike what is taught in government education. And when faced with a conflicting issue Michael New chose the side of the Constitution.

In Michael New: Mercenary or American Soldier? you will read about a real American who put his country ahead of all other interests and motivations. Including his military career. What a rare and unique individual. Compare that to the White House.

Thankfully we still have Americans like Michael New. If you have your doubts order the book and read it for yourself. Afterward you can write your own Amazon book review. :)

For America, Mark Santelman Nashua, NH

5.0 out of 5 stars Young soldier who wouldn't break his oath..., February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Michael New: Mercenary or American Soldier? (Paperback)
While Bill Clinton refused to wear the American uniform, Michael New refused to take it off. And for that he was court-martialed. Now it's your turn to judge for yourself... Daniel New does a terrific job of telling the poignant story of his son's stand against President Clinton, the United Nations, and the Army brass. It doesn't take long for the reader to discover that the News are a family that very much love each other -- and their country. But this book is not a fluff piece. Daniel New makes a convincing and thoughtful case that American soldiers are deliberately being turned into U.N mercenaries. And he provides plenty of documentation in the book to support his argument! This is a must read for any American who ever served in the military, or who has loved ones currently in the military. A real eye-opener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Michael New's defense of the Constitution: A crime?, January 24, 1999

If you want to get angry at injustice and the apparent apathy (or antagonism) of military and government officials toward the true meaning of the Constitution, read this book! This is the story of a courageous, principled young man's taking a stand for his oath to support and defend the Constitution; and then being treated as a traitor, a criminal. You will also find some scary insight into what is motivating the U.N.'s actions. If you love America, you need to read this book!
