This review is from: Michael Schenker Group - Live In Tokyo: 30th Anniversary Japan Tour (Audio CD)
I went to see Michael Schenker on his 2010 US tour in Santa Ana, CA, expecting a good show. What I saw was a fantastic show, way beyond my expectations. Michael's playing was passionate and precise. The band was in top form, each and every one of them.
After that experience I was really looking forward to this CD. Now, after listening to it I can say without reservations that in my books it's as good as Strangers in the Night, considered by most to be the best live MS recording (OK, it's UFO, but you get my idea). I know people who say "how many live Armed and Ready, or Rock Bottom do I need?". I understand what they're saying...but in my opinion you can never have enough of those :-) The recording itself is very good and Michael's guitar/amp tone was captured perfectly. I got the DVD as well and it's also one the best live video recordings of MS. All in all, highly recommended releases. After turbulent years Michael Schenker seems to have reached a point where he's very comfortable and content with his life and it definitely shows in his playing. That's good news for everyone, MS and his fans.

MSG...sounds like it was an awesome show. I still think Strangers in the Night was one of the best live albums there ever was. Not taking away from the new stuff, as I grew up listening to UFO. However, This album rocks and I've listened to it several times already. Thank you Michael Schenker for never hanging up your guitar!!!!

First off the sound quality is very good, his guitars stand out wonderfully, very good song selection. As far as one reviewers comment s on Gary Barden I think his voice is great.I saw them live on this tour, and they were outstanding. Neal Mury and Simon Phillips also standout.I think this is one of the best live cds that michael has done.I think he is still the greastest guitar player in the world and if you are a Michael Schenker fan you should get it

I loved this cd! Gary Barden's voice was as good 30 years ago as it is now! Shenker blows away the guitar as always! Awesome!

Great concert by a master guitar player. Would have liked to hear some more recent tracks but this was a celebration of the original line up.

Great Music, Lousy Vocals,

The music and Schenker's guitar playing are great but Gary Barden's vocals are not. He doesn't even go for most of the high notes. Sounds to me like his voice is shot. Schenker would have done better with one of his former MSG vocalists such as Kelly Keeling or Leif Sundin. 3 out of 5 stars...

I agree with all of you. Saw the headlining show in Chicago 2009 then recently saw them open for the Scorpions in Chicago 2010. 2 great shows. Gary definetly does not have his voice live for the old songs, but adjusts quite well for the new tracks. Most singers that have been around from the 60's,70's and 80's do not have their voice any more. Although some better than others. Also have you heard all the voices that have come out the last 20 years. Most of them are crap, so I think I can handle an old Gary Barden. I think one of the reasons for Michael playing so well is that Barden is back. I am not a huge fan of live cd's I would rather have a dvd, but I wanted this and I am not disappointed. Also pick up their latest studio "In The Midst Of Beauty". That will tell you what Gary and the band sounds like now. It is not MSG without Barden!!!!
