This review is from: Michael Swanwick's Field Guide to Mesozoic Megafauna (Paperback)
...I missed that little factoid when I ordered this stapled pamphlet of 1-page dino tales.
Of course it's wonderful reading. I read it in about 15 minutes. I just feel a little chided, for having paid so much, for so little. [Is that wrong, to measure an artistic work so trivially? Gardner Dozois mentions the word-value of his monstrous anthologies every year in his Forewards. You can get a good Swanwick fix via those books, sometimes, too.] If you're a music fan (of a certain age), the analogy of the EP might work. Sure, you want to buy anything from a favorite artist, but $14? For a 5-song EP? Hm. (I'm thinking "Wide Awake in America," here.) |
