I purchased this as a gift for my mom at Christmas and she was moved to tears when she opened the box. In that respect, it was everything that I hoped it would be.

They didn't provide dimensions, so I should tell you this is no small trinket you keep on the dash of your car. This is about 10" wide by 10" high and about 8" deep...And it's heavy. I didn't put it on a scale, but I'd guess it weighs about 10 lbs.

Is it a perfect replica of the 1499 Michelangelo Masterpiece, shrunken down to size? No. There are considerable differences in the appearance of Mary's face, which may detract those trying to own Michelangelo's exact vision in their own home. But while this version doesn't convey the exact look of Mary from the original, it will move you as artwork on its own merits none-the-less.

Other than Marys face, the level of detail compared to the original is fantastic. The way it catches light softly and casts shadows is stunning. The look of Jesus in the arms of Mary looks authentic, the folds in Mary's clothing, and even Michaelangelo's carving of "MICHAELAGELUS BONAROTUS FLORENTIN FACIEBA" into the sash are all there. It is quite remarkable.

More important than how it compares, viewing it under a lamp in an otherwise dark room at Christmas got me to thinking about the magnitude of that moment, reconnecting me to my faith. And isn't that what religious artwork should do?

If you've been debating buying this, I can only tell you, it comes highly recommend from me.

I bought this for my mother last Christmas and she loved it! It is a beautiful statue. Everyone who sees it loves this piece of art. Shipping was extremely fast and reasonably priced.

The Pieta is hands-down my favorite piece of artwork. The original is so spiritually moving, I'm sure it makes anyone hesitate to purchase a copy. Plus I've seen a lot of really bad copies and that made me hesitate even more. I was so relieved when this piece arrived! While, obviously, nothing can look as good as the original except the original itself, this piece is the BEST I have ever encountered! Honestly, I just stared at it for about an hour after I got it out of the box! If you are a Pieta lover, I don't think you will be disappointed with this piece!

Nice piece, my mom loves it. A perfect size for display on her alter, not too big and not too small.

The Catholic Encyclopedia (which you can find on NewAdvent org) describes the Pieta in its entry on Michelangelo Buonarroti as follows:

"A calm, peaceful expression of grief rests on all the figures of the group [it was part of a larger work.] The face of the mother has youthful beauty; the head is bowed but slightly, yet expressive of holy sorrow. Her drapery lies in magnificent folds under the body of the Saviour. The latter is not yet stiff and reveals but slight traces of the suffering endured, especially the noble countenance so full of Divine peace. Not the lips but the hand shows the intensity of the grief into which the mother's soul is plunged."

This reproduction, as noted in other excellent 5 star reviews, is not a perfect scaled-down replica; but it absolutely captures the essence of the description above. This is an amazing piece of work for the price. It doesn't have the high-polish sheen of marble, but it's not at all "cheap" to the eye or to the touch. It's a faithful, beautiful rendering.

Catholics (and non-iconoclastic Christians) will be very pleased. Quiet prayer with the Holy Spirit in front of this 'Lamentation of Christ' is very moving: your thoughts lift to God, your heart breaks for Jesus, and tears are shed for the Blessed Mother. Isn't that what we believe is the true end of all art - the Greater Glory of God?

This is my favorite sculpture of all time, so I know the original very well and have all but examined every inch in person. My boyfriend got me this for Valentine's and I literally teared up. It's beautiful and looks so much like marble. Wonderful price for the quality/craftsmanship!

The quality of this sculpture is fantastic. It looks like real marble, and feels like it when you touch it. It looks beautiful in my room and I've gotten many compliments. It is a very good size, big enough that you can notice is in a room quickly, but small enough that it doesn't overpower. It looks great with a candle flickering next to it.

I would say that the accuracy compared to the original is around 95%. I have seen this same statue being sold by other companies and sellers on eBay and other websites for over $150. things2die4 (google them if they aren't on amazon anymore) has the best price at ~$55 I will be purchasing more sculptures from them.
