4.0 out of 5 stars Cyclocross tyre, August 29, 2011

This review is from: Michelin Jet Cyclocross tire (Black, 700x30c) (Sports)
A nice fast tyre for dry/packed conditions. I would not want this for a muddy course. When ridden on pavement, this tyre wears quickly, also not very thornproof, I've had a handfull of flats. If you ride cross on clinchers these are a good choice for dry conditions with lots of grass and packed earth and are very fast ont he paved sections. Also good as a trail tyre if you ride dirt roads or packed earth trails. I grab my cross bike for utility use, and these are a nice compromise (fat but not too fat, fast but some tread) for on/off pavement use, such as fire roads. If on the pavement all the time, I would rather have gatorskins (have them on my road wheels), but they have no grip for dirt/grass.

4.0 out of 5 stars rolls real fast, June 29, 2011

These tires were recommended by another cyclist to me.

I swap between these tires and the knobby off-road tires no my Specialized stumpjumper 29er - depending on on-road vs. off-road usage. Yes, I agree with the other reviewer that this jet cyclocross do wear off quickly - I might have put 150 or so miles and my rear cyclocross tires show good wear - that within 50 more miles, I may want to replace that one. The front ones are looking to go another 150 more miles.

But these are super-fast tires and feel super-light once put on the wheels. Particularly when compared to my off-road tires, these are a blast to ride. On my 29er mountain-bike, I can keep up a 16-20mph speed on-road easily for long haul, without a sweat - quite surprising to many road-bikers. While climbing, the bike feels so light compared to the others.

A bit of a warning to fellow off-roaders, and nothing against these tires, but any tires of these narrow width, to watch out a bit more. If you are habbituated by riding on the big fat tires running over small road splits, gutters etc, with these narrow-width tires, you might land up getting stuck (front wheel gets stuck and you will land up doing a rear-wheelie - almost happened to me...)

ride safe!!

The tread is almost gone after 250 miles of offroad (including rails to trails) and road riding.
