Anyone visiting Portugal as a tourist will need this guide, far and away the most detailed and informative of available guidebooks. You will need the Michelin red guide (which also covers Spain) for Hotels and Restaurants although a few are mentioned here for each city. Pictures are nice and the format is convenient. Green guides are much improved over the old ones that were too densely printed and hard to read.

Great book to guide yourself or to supplement touring Portugal. Portugal has much to offer since it joined the European community...

Highly recommended for visitors to Portugal, is surely the most underrated destination in Europe: food, wine, scenic, gracious people, and Fado!

HORRIBLE! I've traveled all over Europe, and have used many guidebooks, to include Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Fodors, Frommers, etc. This is by far the worst guide book I have ever used. I am not embellishing for the sake of hyperbole. This book is completely inadequate, especially if you plan to travel anywhere outside of Lisbon. For any of the smaller cities, there are no hotel listings, dining recommendations, or basically any useful information. It also annoyingly advertises for Michelin. I would even take Michelin tires off of my vehicle after using this book. I never even take the time to write reviews, but I was so disgusted with this purchase, I felt a moral obligation to warn others from making the same mistake.
I will now be searching for another guide book prior to traveling to Portugal. I am open to other recommendations. |
