Without question, the best travel guides you will ever put your hands on. I have been traveling around the world, on business and pleasure, for the last 45 years, and have always been a believer in getting the most out of my travel experience with each new destination I encounter. The Green Guides, when they are available for a particular global destination, have provided me with the most concentrated source of guidance and information on all that is worthy of a visit. Singularly, the Green Guides allow their users the best opportunity to maximize their time and gain the fullest experience possible. I have not found any other travel publications that could match the Green Guides, and thus should be thought of as one's first travel resource for local, self-guided touring.
If your plans take you to Europe, you should also arm yourself with a country-specific Red Guide for the most comprehensive information on hotels and restaurants. In Europe, the Michelin Red Guides are the most respected source for unbiased reviews and 'star' ratings.

As usual, the Michelin guide has accurate and easily accessible information on the major sights in Washington, DC for tourists. Grouping the sights alphabetically within neighborhoods and giving the address, hours, and fees at the beginning of each entry speeds up the planning process, and the highlights and tips in the green sidebar are particularly helpful. The maps and floor plans are excellent. I would have added the 5th star if it had suggested the minimum amount of time needed to see the particular memorial or museum. The 2010 edition did not include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, which is one of the most popular ones to see.
