5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource
During our recent, 1st trip to Paris, we relied heavily on the Michelin guide to ensure the style of food and service was appropriate. We were not disappointed. The reviews were accurate and up to date. Since the guide coevers France as a whole, there is a gap in Paris coverage. There are many more great restaurants not listed, so we recommend getting a second book to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Information, Terrible Design
Michelin is the undisputed king of restaurant and hotel review, especially in France. However, their 2008 "English" guide is actually a smattering of 5 different languages. There is quite a lot of content that is offered ONLY in French or Italian, meaning that unless you speak those languages, you're not going to be able to read the full guide. The text is organized...

I have tried every imaginable travel/guide book. I've come to the conclusion Michelin Guides are now my guide books of choice. As an older traveler who has been to many places on many adventures and journeys, I highly recommend the Michelin Guide books for anyone going anywhere. For first timers to a new country, these guides are invaluable. The same can be said for the discerning traveler looking for good restaurants and comfortable hotels. FINAL OPINION: Take it with you, along with your translation/dictionary/phrase books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now in English? Kind Of!, August 2, 2008

This review is from: Michelin Red Guide France: Hotels & Restaurants (Michelin Guide France) (Hardcover)
The big call for the new version is that it is now available in English -- Kind Of! Most of the content of the reviews of restaurants and hotels is about their menu items -- which are listed in their original French. Still, even a little bit of English proves indispensible to help us Anglophiles figure out what hotel to stay at and what restaurant to eat at, even though I'm still not sure what deep fried part of the pig I ate one night! Wish I had bought a French Menu Reader too! There is quite a lot of content that is offered ONLY in French or Italian, meaning that unless you speak those languages, you're not going to be able to read the full guide. The text is organized according to local region - sort of. Overall, a wealth of useful information that is somewhat crippled by its lack of good design.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, May 13, 2009

This review is from: Michelin Red Guide France: Hotels & Restaurants (Michelin Guide France) (Hardcover)
It's obvious that the Red Guide to France is devoted to food and those hotels that have probably paid for inclusion. Of no use to the ordinary tourist who wants to know what's available, not just which establishments Red Guide approves of. Look on line rather than in this useless book.
