Michelin's Zoom maps are simply the best maps you can lay hands on. The scale for this one is 1/160,000, which allows for outstanding detail. The "zoom" feature is that these maps zero in on the areas of greatest interest so you will have more information and detail without the actual map being much larger than a standard Michelin regional series map. We "road tested" the Provence Zoom map on a recent trip, and just as with the Dordogne Zoom map, found it much more helpful than the GPS in the car. If Michelin produces a Zoom map for an area you're visiting, just get it. No other maps come close.

This map was exactly what we needed! It is HUGE and highly detailed. It would not be very practical to unfold this in the car, but you can unfold sections without unfurling the whole sail-sized page. I have the Michelin atlas of France ( 2067142852 ) and the Michelin Green Guide, Provence ( 1907099654 ) to complement this map. Just my luck, the tiny town where we will be vacationing is on the edge of the Atlas map, but this one has the entire region on one HUGE page. Even some dirt tracks are shown, so the level of detail is excellent, even showing dirt roads and some hiking paths (sentiers, according to the legende.) It also has excellent insets of major towns, including Nimes, Montpellier, Montelimar, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, Marseille, and Avignon. I particularly like the insets of Arles; one is at city scale and another of the historic district showing the Van Gogh district down to 1cm=100m. Marseille also has two insets. The Camargue region of marshes and estuaries is fully detailed. The legend is in French, but it is pretty easy to tell what the symbols mean. I am one happy camper!
