Things I found interesting:
1. Born in Iowa in 1956, Bachmann and her family moved to Minnesota when she was a child, but any semblance of a normal childhood was shattered when her parents divorced. When her mother remarried, Michele became part of a household with eight other siblings, but her stepbrother, Michael LaFave, nevertheless recalled her teenage years as those of a typical girl from the Midwest.
2. on the day Bachmann graduated high school, she set off to Israel, spending the summer of 1974 working on Kibbutz Be'eri near Beer Sheva. Bachmann would later say, "I loved Israel from the moment I first landed," and she was immediately taken aback by the security requirements in the nation, telling a reporter at an American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference, "We were always accompanied by soldiers with machine guns. While we were working, the soldiers were walking around looking for land mines. I really learned a lot in Israel."
3. After receiving her LL. M., Bachmann began working as a tax attorney for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) back in Minnesota near St. Paul. Over the next five years, Michele worked as a tax attorney,
4. In 1993, Bachmann found herself at an important crossroads in her life. Still in her mid-30s, Bachmann put her legal career on hold to become a home maker after she discovered she was pregnant with her fourth child. But the soon to be mother of four, who would eventually be the biological mother of five, was about to also become a foster mom, eventually bringing over 20 foster children into her household over the next 10 years.
