Real talk coming now from Penny-Lee Oshiro's son. This is a great inspiring Intervention episode for a family's struggle with addiction in hopes of walking to a brighter future together. Disclaimer: If you don't want
me to ruin the episode ending, please move on and read this update later. Thank you.

Penny-lee is from Hawai'i (Oahu). She has four children, a husband (my step father: Craig Oshiro), and was an alcoholic. Penny's first husband chose to live another lifestyle, and their sons chose/was-told to live with their biological father at a teenage age. This is a good reason that enhanced & enraged the alcoholic in Penny.

My mother has showed me, our family & friends, and the world that anyone can fight the disease of addicition called alcoholism. I personally was leading down a very similar path to my mom's alcoholism, and I'm glad that I was able to walk to the light of sobriety myself, thank you Mom!

I personally researched my family ancestry, and my family is a fifth-generation Hawaiian. My mom is 50% Hawaiian (her dad is 100% hawaiian, our family comes from the biblical name: Hezekaiah (Hawaiian Last Name: Hekekia)), and the other 50% is mixed from her Mom (Hawaiian, Chinese, Portuguese, Scottish, English, Irish, Spanish, and American Indian).

Update:
My family is doing better, thank you so much to Intervention & Bay Recovery! She is still going strong and has been sober since March 31, 2011. Wonderful Job Mommy!

Thank you for taking the time to read this comment, I hope you enjoyed the Intervention episode (it is what it is, but we can move to a brighter future together always!), Take care, and God bless!

Its a shame they cancelled this show. I'd love them to make a "where are they now" follow up of all the people they have intervented in the past 10 years.

People I know have lost two of their children to drugs and so many more are involved. So sad. The stories are intriguing but really sad. People #1 need to watch what they are doing in front of their kids and # 2 don't hesitate to intervene. The real secret is to smother your kids with love and guidance. Happiness is not dulling your senses to escape!

So sad that addiction takes over ones life the way it does. Not only does it affect the person, but the family is torn apart as well. This program goes step by step from their daily life, the affect on the family, then the intervention with the outcome.

A colleague asked that I view this season because there is an overlap in our specific medical interests. With heroine addiction as in other types of substance abuse, there is decreased ability in the body's immune system and infectious disease becomes more difficult to treat. I very much doubt that I would be able to accomplish what she does with interventions. There seems to be so much darkness before there can be light again . . . if death doesn't intervene! Yes, I do understand addiction and the absolute need for intervention and treatment. Diagnosing an infectious disease process for substance abusers requires treating both conditions . . . it's the same body/mind. It was past difficult to observe that one intervention and this is certainly an accurate portrayal of the 'real' one.

Recommended? That's a good question that I don't have a glib answer for . . . those considering an intervention? Substance abusers? Those interested in human behavior? Perhaps one episode if you are interested in finding a few answers to your own questions.

I've viewed 'Chasing The White Dragon,' 'The Global Addiction,' 'Afghanistan: The Opium Trail,' and 'One Man's Seduction.' If you have an interest in grower to user, 'The Global Addiction' is a 30 min overview by ABC Australia, that is well narrated and reasonably accurate.

Real stories and not fake story lines. To see the rock bottom but people surviving, is incredible. Highly recommend to everyone.

It shows how desperate a person can become in the midst of an addiction. It is hard to see but important to know the tell tale signs so we can identify these with our kids as well understand that the scars of drug abuse do not fade away. They destroy you and anyone who cares about you.
