5.0 out of 5 stars A nice time capsule of Michelle, January 4, 2003

This review is from: Michelle Shocked: The Captain Swing Revue [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have had this video for years, and I am watching it right now (FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! here in January 2003), and what I like about it is that it's a concert from around the time of my favorite album of hers (Captain Swing, natch), and it's a nice bridge between the nice media bouquets lobbed her way and the jaded-ness or bitterness that I sense in her later works. The time-capsuleness of this is evident right from the start when she makes a comment about how the Berlin Wall has just come down! A nice little bit of optimism from those halcyon days...

If you're a Tom Waits fan and you have never heard Streetcorner Ambassador, your life is not complete!!! Her rendition of that amazing song is fanTAStic here. I recommend this video wholeheartedly, even if the profits will likely go to the corporate demons she now hates...if it attunes you to 'Chelle's world, it's worth it! And I don't mean to dissuade anyone from her later works, either. ANYthing she has to tell is worth hearing, in my opinion!!!
