Book Description

The election of Barack Obama exhilarated the nation—and brought the most stylish, sophisticated, and fashion-conscious First Lady since Jacqueline Kennedy into the White House.

A beautiful, strong, and elegant career woman, wife, and mother, Michelle Obama appreciates the importance of image—and not only recognizes the power of fashion...but truly enjoys it!

Michelle Style celebrates the distinctive style of our incomparable First Lady, featuring color photographs, exclusive illustrations, and descriptions of her most iconic looks—from the sleeveless Maria Pinto purple silk crepe sheath that Michelle dazzled in the evening Barack clinched the Democratic nomination, to the ivory fairy-tale gown by Jason Wu that she wore for the historic inauguration. Including quotes from world-famous designers, stylists, and fashion insiders—and inspired advice on everything from dressing to suit your body type to shopping at Target—this one-of-a-kind volume spotlights and celebrates our remarkable twenty-first-century fashion icon.

4.0 out of 5 stars I never understand the hype about Michelle Obama's style until now, September 16, 2011
Well, Mandi Norwood wrote this book in a positive tone. I checked this book out at my college library and I do not plan to buy it. I never understood the hype about Mrs. Obama's style until now. I thought her style was just overrated. She dresses okay and I'm not a big fan of her overrated Black Market black and white floral dress, V-neck shifts or sheaths, or floral brooches she adds to her outfit. I'm not degrading Mrs. Obama. Most of her choices of colors are nice. I liked the floral dress she worn with the silver ballet flats, the Thakoon's floral dress, and the white Jason Wu's white one shoulder gown she worn at the inauguration. I liked the fact she mainly supported mass produced fashions and unknown designers instead of well-known designers. Her style isn't high maintenance, kind of over the top, or ostentatious like celebrities and Jackie Kennedy. Michelle's style is more and relatable to real women who are the majority group (not the minority groups) and moms who are either housewives or work who received an income maybe $80,000-$300,000 a year. I just don't get why people think $60-$200 dresses, skirts, blouses, or cardigans are affordable for the average American woman, in what perspective? I admire Mrs. Obama confidence to wear whatever she wants despite her body shape. (Their nothing wrong with her body shape, she has a nice shape). It's refreshing she's a normal person and don't live life what fashion critics says what you suppose to wear and what not to wear in body shape or in season. I think women should stop trying be something that they are not, avoid wear this because I don't have that kind of high fashion model body or color is for young women. Life is too short to be that self-conscious. Enjoy fashion and enjoy life, that what Mrs. Obama had taught me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Michelle Style, May 30, 2009

Great book! Details about Michelle's style and her clothes. How she can take a simple inexpensive dress from H&M that cost $35.00, add a snazzy designer belt and look like a million bucks! I hope we see more books on her style because I think she is unique in her choices and is not dictated by fashion. Yes, I know, Michelle is a brilliant woman in her own right, and I don't want that minimized, but it's nice to have a First Lady in the WH again who appreciates clothes and the message they can send. There are two other ladies who understood that; Jacqueline Kennedy and Princess Diana. Now it's Michelle Obama!

5.0 out of 5 stars An American Beauty with Fashion Sense, August 26, 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book about Mrs. Obama's "style". I like the fact that the author acknowledges that sometimes Mrs. Obama's style is not appealing to everyone, but Mrs. Obama wears her choices "confidently" well. This book enhances the reality that Mrs. Obama is classy as well as down-to-earth when it comes to dressing herself and her family. I enjoyed the sincere comments from the fashion designers/experts. I give kudos to the author as well. This writing enables the reader to get to know Mrs. Obama just a little bit better. Learning more about someone's fashion does that. Very enjoyable reading.
