Editorial Reviews

Review

European Journal of Plastic Surgery, Volume 28, Issue 377 -- "This handy book, you may take it to the beach or read it in the subway, covers all the bases. The reader will find contributions from related fields to plastic surgery such as general surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, and urology. It's also a wonderful, useful tool to pass the Board-Exam. It is broad based and a real mindsharpener. This text, a winner, is certainly recommended to everybody, active everywhere in the wonderful and vast field of plastic surgery." Canadian Journal of Plastic Surgery, Volume 14, Issue 2 -- "This is a pocket handbook covering the entire field of plastic surgery. Each chapter is composed of well organized detailed lists so nothing will be missed. This is an essential book for medical students to use during a rotation in plastic surgery, and for plastic surgery residents as a memory recall reminder in working up a plastic surgery patient, in presenting patients on rounds, or for study session review."

This book covers all the basic info that a plastic surgery resident should know, in a small, pocket size book. You can carry it over, and let's you do quick reviews of diagnostic and therapeutic measures while on the move.

I definitely recommend this book as an aid to have on the go, besides the basic books you should have in your shelf for a deeper reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great For Plastics rotation, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Michigan Manual of Plastic Surgery (Lippincott Manual Series (Formerly known as the Spiral Manual Series)) (Paperback)
ALthough not as Comprehensive as Grabb and Smiths or another full size textbook, this pocket guide is a really fantastic summary of everything you need to know at the 4th year medical student level or PGY1. It is great to carry around and refresh info before going into a case or right after seeing a consult. I would use it this way so that I was always ready for pimping/questions. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone considering going into plastics or for residents to carry around with them in their junior years.

The only negative about this book I found was there was not enough pictures/diagrams of what they were covering in text. Sometimes this would mean I would know what a technique or method was called and what it was for but could not visualize it or name it when I saw it being done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Review Book for Medical Students, February 22, 2006

This review is from: Michigan Manual of Plastic Surgery (Lippincott Manual Series (Formerly known as the Spiral Manual Series)) (Paperback)
Michigan Manual is comprehensive in its scope of plastic surgery topics and should serve as an excellent reference for medical students. I am a fourth year student and found this text invaluable. It is written in outline form and serves as a quick review. It is a great primer for cases, and can be carried around in your coat pocket. Diagrams/photographs of relevant anatomy are sometimes lacking and this text must be supplemented with a heftier reference book for a more complete understanding of certain topics, but this is still the first reference I go to.
