More About the Author
Susan Newhof lives with her husband in an old house in Montague, Michigan, which was the inspiration for her book, Spirits and Wine. She was born and raised in Grand Rapids and remembers writing poems and stories as soon as she could hold a pencil. After 21 years sampling various college majors, she graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in English and moved to Washington, DC to work in the national press office for the American Red Cross.
Love and family drew her back to Michigan in the mid-1990s where she writes and works as a communication consultant. She enjoys the pleasures of life in a small town, which includes tapping the maple trees surrounding her home and hosting an almost-annual maple syrup party. Susan's concern for animal welfare issues moved her to become a vegetarian several years ago. She and her husband volunteer with local animal rescue groups and have fostered and adopted numerous dogs and cats.
Susan has edited several books and is author of four editions of Michigan's Town and Country Inns, published by the University of Michigan Press. She is working on a book about her eight lovely hens. Spirits and Wine is her first novel.
