Deer Kill Statistics and Snow Mobile Registrations - By County, November 17, 2010
This review is from: Michigan's Upper Peninsula Almanac (Paperback)
If you already know Michigan's Upper Peninsula like a native; if you can get anywhere and everywhere in the UP while blindfolded; if small black and white photographs trigger perfect memories of when you saw the beautiful countryside in person -AND- you yearn to know car-deer accident statistics, lake acreage, voter registration patterns and types of transportation to work from most common to least common - then this book is for you.
This is not a travel book, not a guide book, not a social or cultural commentary - it's an almanac. It's a collection of agricultural, political, demographic and other vital statistics. There is no map of the UP in this book; not even a bare-bones county map. There are no suggestions of things to do or see. It does not tell you what any casinos are like, for instance, but it tells you the financial contribution of each casino to that individual county's tax base. It does not mention whether there are any fishing lodges on a lake, but it tells you the lake's record high level. You get the idea.
It's an almanac. And it appears to be a good one. If you are already in a committed and loving relationship with the UP, and want to know every vital statistic about it you can think of, this is the book for you. If, like me, you think the UP is attractive from afar and you want to find out its idea of fun, favorite drink, and does it like Christopher Walken movies, this is NOT the book for you. Not yet, anyway.
