5.0 out of 5 stars Get a small screwdriver set.
I notice that the people who hate this toy do not know how to open the battery compartments with the tiny screws that are used these days. Here's a hint; buy a set of the eensie little screwdrivers (both regular and philips head) that they sell in every store! (It's not rocket science). I am a 58 year old grandma, and even I know that if you use the right size and style...

1.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game but Poor Product Design
As others have noted, the battery compartment is difficult to open. I used an appropriate size screw-driver and almost ruined the screw trying to release it. My biggest criticism is the battery size used. 2 AA batteries wear down pretty quickly. Considering the amount of space available it could have been designed with C or D cells.

It's a pity they...

Here's a hint; buy a set of the eensie little screwdrivers (both regular and philips head) that they sell in every store! (It's not rocket science). I am a 58 year old grandma, and even I know that if you use the right size and style screwdriver, and learn to push down and turn carefully so as not to strip it, it's a piece of cake! The game itself is tons of fun, and little ones almost always love it and play for hours. It's usually really hard for them at first, but before long they become experts. It's also great for their eye/hand coordination.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love it!, August 27, 2009

My kids, ages 2.5 and 4.5 absolutely LOVE playing this game!

I really think it is unfair for people to rate it as one star just because they didn't have a set of small screwdrivers. We use our small screwdrivers so often that we keep the set handy on top of the fridge (instead of out in the garage like the other tools) for quick and easy access!

Now, the 2.5 year old has been chewing on the fishing rods a little bit, and one of the prongs of the "grapple" of the blue rod is broken. But luckily this set comes with 4 rods, and we're more vigilant now about telling her not to put it in her mouth.

I am so happy that they received this toy as a gift. If something happened to this toy, I would definitely look for a replacement!

I bought exactly the same toy abroad when my daughter was 2. It was too difficult for her to catch fish at the time, but was fun for me and other adults who played with her. When she was over 3 yrs old she started to be able to catch some. We moved to the US last year and wanted to replace all the toys my daughter used to have, so we bought this. I have not experienced any problems with battery box like other reviewers mentioned.. I have a set of small screw drivers (we need this for everything. don't know how people can manage without these. they are available at most dollar stores) so that always does the job. My daughter is now 4 and able to catch more fish than before. I still enjoy playing this with her. Simple but fun toy. My 2 yr old nephew visited the other day, I had my hand over his and fished with him. He really enjoyed himself and didn't want to go home. It is a good toy!!

It's a pity they didn't try and have a decent product made for 50 cents more in cost. I think this will be in a landfill before long, what a waste!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't do it!, December 25, 2008

Not only were some of the fish broken, but the battery compartment is almost impossible to get open. My son was crying while I tried 4 screwdrivers. Then it is almost impossible to catch the fish with these rods.

If I didn't get it on clearance with 6 other games I would be more annoyed.

But right now my kids are playing with it with their fingers and loving it.
