If you want a better life, and are thinking whether 105$ is too much for a box set of 8 cd's, don't hesitate, this set is worth every penny, these are not outtakes but all the albums Mickey did in the 60's and 70's, this is gospel, folk, jazz, and a deeply religious and emotional experience. Newbury has had his songs covered by other artists more than 300 (!) times, many of them have become number ones hits, but the real hit is his deep voice, it's like praying, this set is a prayer. He could be called the Bach of our times, maybe we should call these the Newbury Cantatas to give you an idea of what we are talking about.
If someone evere told you that this songs are depressing forget it, each time I hear them I want to live, to live as intensively as possible, isnt this what art is about?
So, at 105$ you'll get a taste of heaven, is this expensive?

....this set is for you. If there has ever been emotional upheaval in your life.....you'll be surprised to find that MICKEY NEWBURY was watching AND WROTE A SONG ABOUT IT! AN AMAZING COLLECTION from an AMAZING WRITER. FINALLY, I can retire my well-worn cassettes!

This is absolutely incredible. I have tons of Mickey's records worn out, but to be able to hear it all - especially San Francisco Mable Joy - on CD was a real tear-jerker. I started listening to Mickey back on KSFO (?) in the late 1960's - got turned on by Bobby Dale - anyone remember him? If you want to hear the best music ever by the best musician this is it. Bring on the hankies....

I had Mickey Newbury music on 8 track tapes, then records and later cassettes. This is by far the BEST. The sound is unequaled and how WONDERFUL it is to hear Mickey again. His words and music touch the very soul. It's like putting on your favorite, old, comfortable pair of shoes.

I had forgotten how absolutely wonderful all of Newbury's songs are until I purchased this set. It had been so long since I had listened to the records, it was like discovering him all over again. What a treat! I highly recommend this to any Newbury fans. It's hard to pick out the best disc out of all of these because each one I listen to has beautiful songs.

This collection covers all his previous recordings, though they are not taken from the original tape masters. They are mastered from virgin vinyl pressings, but they are nonetheless very acceptable and long overdue for fans of this special artist. For those who "Came To Love The Music" of this great songwriter/artist, you will have rewarded your heart and soul with the purchase of this collection set. The maestro is back, better than ever, and STILL RECORDING. I had most of the albums in this collection, but the quake of '94 silenced my LP player. Now all those "Sweet Memories" can return with each and every CD. For the old (and the young) fans of Mickey Newbury, a treasure found ... "After All These Years". We love you, and Thank You, Mickey!

"Lovers" is probably one of the best albums ever recorded. Mickey Newbury is one of the greatest unknown artist ever not known.

As others have stated, what an American treasure! His music is addictive, and you find yourself trying to find every piece of music Newbury ever recorded. How can his music be so lovely and so few people be aware of him? It's regrettable that we mainly get exposed to mainstream music on the radio and miss out on so many supremely talented artists such as Mickey Newbury.
