Imagine my surprise when this out of print book showed up in my mailbox. Why surprised? I was expecting a quicky knock-off paperback (with it's requisite 8 page picture insert) and was pleasantly rewarded with an 80 page trade paperback book with lots of photos (color and b&w). Since this book was published in the U.K. back in 1988, it only covers Mickey's TV and movie work up to 1987'S Barfly (one of three movies that he starred in that year). The book covers everything from his birth (Philip Andre Rourke) in New York, his early years living in Miami, his return to N.Y.C. to become an actor, the big move to L.A., and his various roles through '87. The pictures are from most of his movies as well as several candid ones (to include one with his brother Joey). Love him or hate him, this book isn't for everyone, just the die hard Mickey Rourke fans (like me) who wish to read something other then misguided reviews about this charismatic star. Did I mention 9½ Weeks?
