Editorial Reviews

Product Description
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Mickey Rourke was one of Hollywood’s most exciting stars, at once a sex symbol and critically acclaimed actor. But Rourke’s hard drinking, self-loathing, and much-publicized marital brawls soon had him reduced to straight-to-video potboilers and a brief career as a boxer. Based on extensive interviews with Rourke, Francis Ford Coppola, and many others, this detailed biography examines the actor’s chaotic, often brutal life, from his childhood in Miami’s tough Liberty City, to his superstardom and downward spiral, to his recent triumphant return to the big screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars OH, MICKEY YOU'RE SO FINE - PART II, December 30, 2006
After finding and reading Bart Mills' 1988 book on Mickey Rourke (which only covered up through 1987 in his career and is now out of print), I figured that that was as good as it was going to get. Wrong!!! While Christmas shopping for someone else in a local bookstore, I almost didn't check the usual sections for myself. I'm sure glad that I did. I was casually scanning the spines over in the TV/film section when something jumped out at me. I couldn't believe that I'd actually found another book devoted entirely to my favorite actor. I snatched it off the shelf and made my way to the registers knowing damn well that I'd buy it no matter what it contained. Since the line was rather long (another good reason to shop online), I had a chance to read the back cover and skim the 144 page book itself. I couldn't wait to start reading it. It covers Mickey's life from the beginning up through his upcoming work on Sin City 2 (and maybe Grindhouse). While it doesn't have as many photos as the Mills book (and are all b&w), it does contain something better. It contains interviews with Rourke himself as well as friends, family, co-stars, and directors. It also mentions the many famous roles/movies that Mickey passed on. You'll be amazed. Christopher Heard has done his homework and done it well. Minor quibbles aside (I don't agree with all of Heard's reviews of Rourke's movies and although covered earlier in the book, Eureka (1981) is left off of Mickey's filmography at the end while The Thin Red Line (1998) is included even though Rourke was edited out of it), this is currently the definitive Mickey Rourke book. Period. My advice? Eventually find a copy of the Bart Mills book for the pictures but buy this book now before it too is out of print.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mickey Rourke: High and Low by Christopher Heard, March 9, 2009
After watching the Barbara Walter's special featuring Mickey Rourke there were things said that I wanted to learn more about Mickey Rourke. I always thought him a great actor and knew nothing about how down he has been on himself and the Hollywood stuff that would make any sane person insane. I then decided to find a bio on him and I found this one by Christopher Heard and was so horribly disappointed in the book. The book might have well been titled Mickey Rourke's filmology and everyone involved in making the films he had been in. There was very little about Mickey Rourke himself. So, it you want a real bio on Mickey Rourke you'd be better off trying to contact him personally, than to read this book and what's with the spelling in the book? Really disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars A magnificent actor, February 3, 2009
A great book showing his thoughts, passageways of life and his new
beginning after boxing -- a dream from the past to fulfill.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and easy read
I enjoyed the book. It had great facts about Mickey, good pictures. The only thing I did not like was too many areas that the author wrote about a director or other person... Read more

could have delved deeper a bit weak in places will have to wait until the man himself decides to write his own autobiography.
