StarTech.com PCI Express Riser Card x8 Left Slot Adapter 1U with Flexible Cable (PEX8RISERF) might be a better choice, even though it's more expensive.

I'll be going another route.

I bought this item to "rise" a video card so I could free up a PCIx1 slot that was covered up with a dual slot video card. After installing, the computer started rebooting at random. After removing it, everything worked as normal. It's build quality is very good. It probably would work for video cards on the low-end side(sub $100.00).

It was Dead on arrival. Card works, port works, with the cable nothing is working. I'll be going another route. I'm going to try the 1x adapter instead, as the NIC I have is only 1x.

The video card just randomly stop working after a while, 10 sec to 3 min maximum.
I spent so much time trying to find a solution to this problem, but I think those are just unusable.

This is not to knock anyone's products or nothing but this cable is not 100%, or rather certain popular video cards may crash your system randomly if one uses this cable.

Upon receiving this product, I was immediately disappointed. The soldering between the cable and the socket is fairly ugly and I was unsure about plugging a new $200 graphics card into it. I considered returning it on the spot.

However, the connection between the cable and socket seems stable. It does not flex, bend, or show any signs of falling apart (at the moment). It's been running the new graphics card for several days without issue.

Given that comparable products have received similarly bad reviews, this cable is not a bad option, but I wouldn't recommend it.

This cable is cheap and of questionable quality. The end of the female PCIe connector shows grinding to remove the locking tab. The soldering of the pins is inconsistent indicating poor (or no) quality control in the screening and reflow process. Some of the connector pins are bent where they are soldered to the board instead of being straight.

For now, it's working, but I think if you ordered several you'd find at least few that have shorts, which could be rather bad for your motherboard. StarTech.com PCI Express Riser Card x8 Left Slot Adapter 1U with Flexible Cable (PEX8RISERF) might be a better choice, even though it's more expensive.

There's no clip to hold in the pci-e card, so if you have much tension because you're trying to spread cards for heat, they can start to slide out. Otherwise, these are IDE cables soldered to terminals. They work ok.
