I used this to install an SSD in my 27" iMac. This allowed me to convert the Slimline SATA connector used for the optical drive to a normal SATA for the SSD. It was a little bit long for this application but with the right placement of the SSD it works great.

Works as an adapter to get the slimline SATA connection to mount an SATA drive. I replaced the Superdrive in my 2011 MBP with the Apple SSD included with the laptop. My main drive is a Crucial M4.
The cables are very stiff and too long for this application, but I made it work. Considering that this adapter was not intended for cramming into a laptop case, it works as advertised. I will upload a photo.

Needed it to change out the DVD slimdrive in a 2009 imac to an SSD. Went on a fishing expedition to find something to convert its somewhat strange mini/micro interface to standard SATA. Success!!!

I bought this cable in order to replace the SuperDrive in my iMac i3 3.06 GHz (mid 2010) with a Samsung SSD 830 (128Gb model). Both ends of the cable fit perfectly: the Slimline end to the Mac's connector, and the SATA end to the solid-state drive.

I wish the cable were a little bit shorter though, I had to position the drive in a rather awkward fashion. I have built the drive's case myself, since paying the sixty bucks for an iFixit or OWC case seemed like too much for a $100 drive. Anyway, since I made the case myself, the cable length wasn't too much of a problem.

So think twice before buying this cable for your iMac if you are reluctant to pay for the case. The cable works perfectly and has given me no problems so far, but, as mentioned before, you will have to think about a) a way to hold the drive, and b) a way to accommodate the cable.

I used this adapter in a Dell Optiplex 760 SFF case. I wanted to install 2x2.5" hard drives using a bracket. Trouble is, there are only 2 SATA ports on the motherboard and 1 of them is used by a slimline optical drive. This adapter did the trick. I've now got the optical drive plugged into the internal USB under the hard drive cage. Nice.
