I experienced the same problem as Abracadaba. The front panel eject button on my new Samsung SN-208 DVD Writer does not work with this cable (a software eject, via Windows, does work). As a test, I swapped with the DVD drive in my laptop and verified that the Samsung is not defective and that the eject button does indeed work. Additionally, the HP GT20L from my laptop did not work at all with this cable. As Abracadabra mentioned, different drives are wired differently internally. Since there is no way of knowing beforehand which other drives are compatible or incompatible, buying this cable is a hit or miss proposition and I can't recommend it.

This product does exactly what it claims to do. I had absolutely no problem using this to connect a slimline Blu-ray drive, which I scavenged from a laptop with motherboard issues, to my new desktop. It allows the drive to play Blu-rays and burn DVDs just as I intended, so it is definitely a five-star product, in my opinion.

Unless you want a drive that will not eject, don't buy this cable.

Mini-sata power cables are 6pins, with two 5 volt pins and two 12 volt pins. This cable is wired such that only one 5 volt pin and one 12 volt pin are connected. For some drives this "may" not be a problem, depending on how they are wired on the device side. Keep in mind that having only half of the circuit wired means it can only handle half as much current as mini-sata is designed for.

My Samsung SN-208BB drive WILL NOT eject the disc with the front release button when using this cable. I've tried two drives and they both exhibit the same problem. When connected to a power supply that had a mini-sata power plug the drives work fine.
