I figured I'd share my mistake so others can avoid it. mSATA drives are mini-SATA, and this is a Micro-SATA adapter. I'm not sure why Amazon recommended this purchase when I got it with a Crucial 256gb mSATA CT256M4SSD3.

This is for standard 1.8 inch SSD drives, not the mSATA that comes with slates, and ultralight laptops, which looks like a printed circuit board with some IC chips on it. If you have a drive that looks like an oversized wireless card, this will not work with it.

I'm sure this works fine for its intended purpose, which is to adapt a micro-SATA 1.8 inch hard drive or SSD to a conventional SATA connection.

This does not work to adapt a slimline (laptop type) SATA DVD/optical drive. Those have a "slimline SATA" connection. This adapter is for a "micro SATA" connection. These are not the same thing.

My bad, I failed to research this.

I am apparently not alone in not taking the time to read through other reviews or even the item description before purchasing so unfortunately discovered today that this adapter will not work in my application (connecting to a Slimline style DVD drive). I based my purchase on picture alone which does not show the "micro" connection end. I will post a picture if possible.

Looks like it would work great for its intended purpose so I won't return it. I guess it is time for me to pick up a 1.8" SSD...

I had to buy one of these after I was an idiot and bought a 1.8 inch SSD when I really needed a 2.5 inch SSD. It works fine.

But! While this is slim enough, it's quite long for some reason, and will add 7/8 of an inch to the effective length of the drive. So if you were going to put an 1.8 inch drive in something that would perfectly hold a 2.5 inch drive, IT WILL NOT FIT.

I found this out when I attempted to turn it into my Acer's boot drive. Won't fit. I managed to shuffle drives around and now all the machines are happy, but it's a big problem for a laptop bay.

i purchased this product after reading about the need for a voltage regulator to keep from burning out my SSD. It worked as described for my 1.8 SSD, been installed for about a week now. i'll update if it ever fails.

It's cheap, it's functional, it looks like the picture. That's the list of requirements for a five star review on this guy.

I bought this adapter to try and hookup my Macbook Air A1369 (m-PCIe) SSD up to another computer to wipe the encrypted drive. So if you are looking at this adapter for doing something similar than this is not what you need.

This is what you want below. Save yourself the time and money unlike myself and buy the correct adapter to start with.
