I read the customer review which stated that the adapter was used with a Nokia N810 to read flash drives. This implies that it is a host adapter, so since I did not see others listed as OTG host adapters I took a chance on it. When I got it and tried it on my Archos A70 it was not able to read flash drives. I decided to disassemble the adapter and when I did, I could tell that pin 4 of the micro USB connector was not connected to ground so it is not a host adapter. I will rewire it and test it out but I am sure it will work.

Please note that the vendor never stated that it was a OTG Host Adapter. So to be fair it works perfectly as advertised. I suspect that the previous reviewer simply got an adapter which was manufactured by a different vendor and was an OTG Host Adapter.

Purchased this to connect a USB keyboard and mouse to my Xoom. The adapter arrived with the USB A side metal bent inward, so any USB plug is a very tight fit. This could easily be corrected with a pair of pliers, but I prefer the connection tight instead of too loose.

If you're buying this for use with a Xoom, be aware that you do need the Android 3.1 update in order to use USB keyboards and mice.

I purchased this thing last year because it was so cheap, but I had an EVO 3D which I knew did not work with this, I was just waiting for when my contract was over I would be able to get a phone that would work with this. There are VERY FEW devices that work with this, as most of them are powered by 3.7 volt batteries, and that has to power the phone itself AND whatever is attatched to it. So, for example, hooking up hard drives to a phone would not work because most hard drives draw 5 volts from the USB and some even draw 12 volts and need two USB's to power them. I was reading an article on CNET of how ****ing AWESOME THIS THING IS WITH THE S3. Remove the spaces in this link to see it:

[...]

Here is a list of device (from a valid source, cnet) that will work with this adapter:

Samsung Galaxy S II (S2)
Samsung Galaxy S III (S3)
Galaxy Nexus*
Galaxy Nexus 7*
Droid RAZR (And the MAXX of course)
Samsung Galaxy Tab
Acer Iconia Tab A200
Acer Iconia Tab A500
Archos G9
Notion Ink Adam
Motorola Xoom
Toshiba Excite 10
Sony Tablet S

So, it's clear that many Android phones lack support for USB host mode. It's possible that OEMs will include the feature in future software updates, but until then, those who want to hook up USB accessories to their unsupported Android devices will have to root.

*Although the Galaxy Nexus family supports many USB accessories, it does not support mass storage devices, like USB thumbdrives.

Packaging is just a zip style bag with a label on it, nothing special.

It’s simple product with metal connectors and a plastic center. It seems well made for what it is, I’m been using it for a while now with no issues. I keep it in my desk drawer actually so it’s always handy. One side is a standard female USB connection like you would find on your computer for example. The other side is a male micro USB connector.

I tested the adapter with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Android phone, an Android tablet and a Windows 10 tablet and all three recognized it and could read and write to and from USB drives so I would have to say it works just fine.

It’s a very simple product that is very handy for me.
It works with the devices I tested it with, I could read and write to and from USB flash drives and that’s what I wanted it for.

I also used it as an adapter with my Windows tablet to use a wireless mouse with it and it worked as well. The mouse is RF and uses a tiny USB adapter as the receiver which plugs in via USB and then the mouse connects to it and it works perfectly fine with my Windows tablet.

Pros:
+Very inexpensive
+Works with Android and Windows phones/tablets
+Small and well made

Cons:
-None

Disclosure: I purchased this product for my personal use and thought a review would benefit other consumers in making an informed purchasing decision.

I bought this adapter because the tablet I was working on was not properly configured for the dock I was using it with, and as a result I could not use the USB port on the dock. I needed to install a fresh copy of windows 10 to the tablet and had no other means of doing so due to the missing USB port, so I went out on a limb and purchased this. There's not really a lot more I can say here, it allowed me to install Windows from a USB drive that otherwise I would not have been able to install, so for a couple of bucks it was more than worth it for the convenience. I am keeping this in my toolkit in the event that I run into another situation that warrants it.

You know something is worth having if a computer technician carries it with him.

Seems to be working well with Samsung Galaxy S II. I was able to mount a USB stick, and even plug in USB mouse for laughs (kinda pointless, but it does work). As far as form factor goes, it seems to be fitting pretty tight in the socket, and doesn't feel like it's going to fall out any minute.
