Works well once you get the hang of it, but it really needs a stand that will permit old guys like me with shaky hands to move it up and down and adjust the focus while still keeping the image in sight.

This is a great little microscope. I use it at work (Biomedical Optics Lab). Instant images to my computer. It lets me see what I need to see right away. I love it! I've recommended it to colleagues.

Well done. Easy to use. Sharp image. Wide focus range. High magnification. Well made. Built-in LEDs are nice. Just what I wanted.

Pros: Cost, Ease of use, Software is great,
Cons: Needs a stand, Auto color attempt to adjust to the largest visible object sometimes disrupting the color of the object you are viewing.

Failed to install on windows 7 64 bits system and failed. The driver seemed installed but the software, dino capture was not, giving a blank window. Trying to search online for undate driver/software, the company's website doesn't have any. Installing on another desktop computer running windows 7 home (64bits), same problem showed up.
Then I found an old laptop running window xp, hopping this time it would work, but when running dino-capture, run time error 399 showed up, the program can not run. This is a total wast of time. The company shouldn't ship outdated products to the customers in hopping that there is a slight chance the thing is going to work, or customer won't return it. Finally found website for Dino Lite website, you need to download the new dino lite capture 2.0 software. [...] Once dino lite capture 2.0 installed, the microscope works for both windows xp and windows 7. Wish the seller put something inside the box for the downloading website, could save me hours of work. After using it for a couple of times, it is a great little microscope.

I'm a Biology major and I love that I can take my microscope and laptop up to school and take pics of the slides I'm supposed to know, or take videos of things.
I would have rated this product a 4, but you really do need a stand like the other reviews suggest and there are only a couple of magnifications that actually work, but this is plenty for my purposes.

Orion Microscope,

The magnification is excellent however the LED lighting over exposes some objects in addition the software that came with the unit I purchased was not compatible and after some investigating I was directed to a website that allowed me to download a compatible driver. I had to chat with an online rep who advised me on the driver to select since it was not an obvious choice.
If this unit had adjustable lighting or a method to filter it would make this the best hand held camera I have ever purchased for the price in addition had the written directions defined updated software so that you did not have to over investigate it would be a very easy plug and play unit that alot more peolple could enjoy. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best) this handheld is an 8.

Dino Capture didn't work!,
A Kid's Review

Trying to install the software on my laptop which running windows 7 64bits home. It seemed that the driver installed correctly, but when running Dino-capture, a blank window, with half a yahoo logo showed on left, nothing happens. Called the tech support, they told me that copy the cd on to the harddrive, then install. Did that, but still the same.
Come home and trying to install on home computer, the result is the same. Seem that the software is not windows 7 compatible. Wasted a lot of time searching online, the Orion website has no tech support section, no download, no faq... This thing has no support at all.

Not Compatible with Mac Computers,

Microscope is not Mac compatible and the cd software is lame with poor, colorless layout. Operating the focus is simple, but to actually take a picture can be labor intensive since it is based on the "copy-n-paste" technique. If you own a Mac computer, do not purchase this product.
