I work as a Metal Working Fluids chemist and have to formulate certain bacteriacides and fungicides into a product as well as determine the best additive to add to a customers fouled sump. I have my M.S. in Organic Chemistry and M.S. in Microbiology. This book went into the detail of the mechanism of action down to the molecular level i.e. the functional group in the thiazolinone is assisted by a primary amine in order to break through the organelles of a bacteria or fungus cell wall. Temporary atomic bonds and electron paths are explored in as much detail as is known.

It is organized in sections pertaining to the industry where the microbicide is often applied (wood preservative, paints and coatings, water based lubricant systems, medical disinfectants, etc) and is very inclusive. Unfortunately the book shows its age when certain fungicides in the wood preservative section have now been used in the water based coolant field for the past 4 years, but this book was written 18 years ago.

All in all, I would say this is a very useful book for anyone in the bussiness of microbicides. I gaurantee it will teach you something you didnt know, even if you do have your PhD from Princeton, not naming any names Mr. leading microbiologist in my field. My only regret is paying as much as I did for the book. Brand new this book costs four, I paid one ninety, and now its on sale, used, for thirty. Snatch it up now ladies and gents.
