5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT RESOURCE for NURSING
I'm a nursing student, and I can't stress enough how much I LOVE this book. Gives a pretty good overview of microbial activity, signs & symptoms of the particular infection, antimicrobial agents' mechanisms and side effects. Book seems tailored to nursing students. I constantly refer to this book when antimicrobial drugs come up in class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Our professor told us to buy the 9th edition because the 10th is almost the same copy but instead of spending $150 you can get a used one for $40. Here is the Amazon link for the product: Microbiology: An Introduction, 9th Edition

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reference, pleasant reading too, February 16, 2009
This is a good reference work.
ALSO, contrary to a couple of the negative reviews, I found that individual chapters are clear and enjoyable to read, EVEN out of order. Of course the chapters reference one another, because the the subject is inherently complex. That's not the fault of the authors, that's just the nature of the material! Excellent book. I highly recommend it.
(Yes, slightly overpriced I suppose, but then so are all such text books, whatever "overpriced" means.)

5.0 out of 5 stars The only textbook I've every REALLY used, July 23, 2009
I have to admit that this is the first textbook I have ever actually used. I always purchase my textbooks but never refer back to them. I used this book for everything, I LOVE this book. It is so simple and easy to read. All the pictures are helpful and it does a great job explaining the topics and concepts perfectly. I am pre-nursing and this book worked great for me. It does refer back to other chapters but all texts that I've had do that. I don't see why this is an issue for others who have reviewed this book. I will definitely be keep this one for future reference!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised, January 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microbiology: An Introduction, Books a la Carte Edition (10th Edition) (Paperback)
When purchasing the product it was advertised as a "softback" text book. When the product arrived it was not a softback book, it was a printed text for a three ring binder that did not even include a cover or the binder. Text books set in three ring binders do not have the durability to survive a semester and pages tearing out is a constant problem. There is no way this is worth $95 and I would have gladly paid the extra $20 to get a traditional hard bound text book.

Would not recommend purchasing the paperback version. Anticipated a PB version, however received pages only, unbound. Purchased a high quality notebook, however, the pages keep falling out. Would not recommend this version. I should have returned the product, but time was an issue. Think before you purchase this item.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, Useless Access Code, August 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microbiology: An Introduction, Books a la Carte Edition (10th Edition) (Paperback)
I like how the book is loose so I can take whatever chapters I need, and not the whole text book. What SUCKS is the access code DOES NOT work!! And what really sucks, I have a quiz to do and this code doesnt work! I have to buy a new access code. MORE MONEY WASTED.

This was an excellent purchase. Not only did get a detailed, in color loose leaf type text I also got access to an on-line program. I am taking practice quizzes, watching text related videos and listening to taped lessons on my MP3 player. It was an awesome purchase. I would recommend it to anyone.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. I'm currently taking Microbiology in College, and they required this book for the class. Well I decided to go with Amazon because not only are they reliable it was $40 cheaper with Amazon then through the school.

I ordered this item weeks ago and still haven't received it. I attempted to contact the vender many times and I've had no response. Definitely not a relialbe source. At this point I just want my money back and I'm having problems with that too!
