1.0 out of 5 stars Look Elsewhere, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Microboards GX CD/DVD Media Inkjet Auto Printer PX2-1000 (Personal Computers)
I bought one of these a little over a year ago, built like a tank but unfortunately works as a Hugo. Right out of the box it never worked correctly. There are little calipers in the feed that is designed to drop an individual disk onto a "belt" and run under the print head. The machine simply would squeeze the disks and not drop, other times it would flip the disks and of course print on the wrong side.
After a few unhelpful and not a bit apologetic emails from the company they finally decided they could take the time and energy to exchange it.
I think they must have sent the same machine as it did the exact same thing. No chance at a refund so this turned into a single disk printer, which of course can be had for a 10th of the cost of this thing. Immediately after the end of a one year warranty it won't print straight on the DVD, about two inches off of center, and makes a noise similar to having a card in the spokes of a bicycle wheel, it's absolutely not worth paying to repair as the repair costs are much more than a single disk printer. It was no match for my sledgehammer although besides wasting a $1000.00 quite satisfying to finally end this Microboards nightmare.
Expensive proprietary ink cartridges and software that has to be reinstalled with almost every ink change makes the POS even more frustrating and expensive. I wouldn't recommend this product to my absolute worst enemy and can't believe anyone would actually sell this junk - gets one star as their isn't a choice for less.

Has never worked properly, rarely works as a multiple disc burner and printer. Constantly have to sit there to attend to frequent malfunctions. Total Crap.

2.0 out of 5 stars Long term experience with Microboards GX - ugh, January 30, 2011
This review is from: Microboards GX CD/DVD Media Inkjet Auto Printer PX2-1000 (Personal Computers)
We purchased this in 2008. It worked OK for about 13 months, when something inside broke. It was out of warranty, so i had to pay to have it repaired. Microboards turned it around quickly. However, it arrived non-functioning, with a belt laying in the bottom. Microboards was great, and let me ship it back at their expense, and they returned it quickly. It worked for another 6 months or so, then it failed again. Even though it was out of warranty, once again Microboards was very supportive and agreed to repair it for free and pay for shipping.

The problems I had are just as described by the other reviewers. Print drivers work fine except when you need to cancel a print job, which requires a reboot. Discs don't always feed properly, meaning you have to babysit the printer and reload, or just manually give it one disc at a time. I have only used the higher-priced, T-Y (now JVC) discs that were recommended by Microboards. I believe the printer's "singluator" disc feed design is fundamentally flawed. The diameter of a blank CD or DVD is just slightly too small for the feeder to work consistently. Every few discs, one will come to rest in the plane of the caliper (instead of resting on its top surface), so that when it goes to feed the next disc it ends up jamming against the edge of the media. This results in misfeed, flipping the disc, or dropping two or more discs at once!

Also, even though the manual doesn't state this, you need to periodically clean the 4 little belts with a clean rag and isopropyl alcohol. The top of this printer where the discs go is uncovered (another design flaw) meaning all the dust or particles in your room will land inside and accumulate on the belt. Anyway, you only need to do this when you notice the printing is grossly (on the order of 1/2 inch or more) out of alignment from top to bottom. We print about 50 discs per week, and need to clean belts once a year.

On the positive side, it's fairly fast and prints very good images. Microboards really did stand behind their product.

Good luck!

This review is from: Microboards GX CD/DVD Media Inkjet Auto Printer PX2-1000 (Personal Computers)
The Microboards GX-2 is a total piece of junk! It is the worst computer peripheral I have owned in the last 30 years..... never worked and the company was not the least bit helpful.
