An okay book,
By an undergraduate business student (PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Microeconomics (Hardcover)
This book was used for my microeconomics class. It helped me learn the material, but there's still room for improvement.Having the textbook be so focused on specific examples was not such a good idea, because it made it difficult to understand what do to in a more general problem, or in any problem that deviates from this example. The discussions of concepts, however, were excellent. I wish the derivations were more integrated into the text instead of in an appendix in the back, and that they were better explained - it's frustrating to spend an hour trying to figure out which steps were left out. The problems in the textbook were challenging but good, however, unless you're at least a econ grad student or some kind of genius, you're probably not going to be able to do many of them just by reading the textbook...which brings me to my last point...if you're taking a class in which this book is mandatory, by all means, get it, it's useful...but if you are trying to learn or brush up on micro without the aid of a class, look for another book

Overpriced,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microeconomics (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
I had to purchase this book for an economics course. It does have some good examples and applications, but other times the book just bogs down and is impossible to read. Lastly, the price tag is ridiculious... Teachers, don't make your students waste their money on this.

Nearly impossible to follow,
This review is from: Microeconomics (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
This is my first review on Amazon ever, I feel so adamantly about the horrible quality of this book that I needed to share.
The author does an extremely poor job of introducing concepts and making them easy to understand. Problems are CONSTANTLY laid out in a manner where leaps are made between steps without explanation. The "myeconlab" supplement is supposed to walk through solutions from the book but instead only offers multiple choice "quizzes" that are much different. Of course many of you will not have a choice in the matter if it is required for the course but what a P.O.S.....worst way to spend $200.

Perloff Micoeconomics 5th Edition,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Microeconomics (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
If you are looking for a book that will actually help you learn Economics keep looking. I found the concepts densely couched in graphs of kilograms of hogs and pigs. I know that did not make a lot of sense, but it's all a bit hard to follow. The book jumps from definitions into abstract scenarios. Economics in general is abstract thinking about how and why people spend money, but this book loses that explanation someplace between the intro and the back cover. Reading text over and over again is not my thing. Maybe the 6th Edition will be better. I often wonder about why there are so many editions of textbooks. Did they leave something out, or come up with something new?

Worst Micro Book EVER,
This review is from: Microeconomics (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
I used to like Econ before this book. This book is confusing, hard to follow, and torturous to read. While reading it, I find myself taking a well-deserved nap every 15 minutes. It seems like the author deliberately tries to explain things in the most confusing and driest way possible. Also, there are too many equations throughout - many of which hurt your brain in the way they are explained. This is the first time I've written an online review of any sort, but I felt like I had to perform a public service and let you know before you buy.

Terrible,
This review is from: Microeconomics (Paperback)
This is my first amazon review, for this terrible book. It is illogical and unclear, making you even more confused after reading. Never ever try it. it will ruin your academic future on economics.

Worst Intro Micro Text in the market,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microeconomics (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
I was required to buy this book when I took a course taught by the author, Jeff Perloff. This book is the absolute worst micro text I've ever come across. It's confusing and unorganized much like the author himself. If you're looking for a good intro micro text, I suggest you look elsewhere. I highly recommend Nicholson's Microeconomic Theory.

TOXIC TEXTBOOK- If I could have given zero stars I would have.,
This review is from: Microeconomics (5th Edition) (Hardcover)
This is required reading for my BA Eco program, and in my opinion there is no greater crime than mandating such pure trash. This text isn't just wrong, as in it's micro theory is fallaciously presented, it's also not a real textbook. Every lesson is steeped in ideological rhetoric and political bias. The terms are presented, analysis follows, and then a conclusion supporting free-market fundamentalism is posited. This is NOT an academic treatment of the theory or practice of microeconomics. It could best be described as illogical fiction and propaganda.
Pure ideological brow-beatings through blatant fallacies, missing data citations, hyperbolic uses of rhetoric, and frequent "applications" that lack both context and validity, are the true merits here. If you must read this book, please let your own thinking cap be the helmet that saves you from Perloff's brainwashing tirade of toxic misinformation. For those looking for more useful micro related resources search for agent based modeling, neural networks, complexity economics, behavioral eco, or any of the other realistic approaches towards "micro" based economics. Please don't accept this as book as either authoritative or instructional, it's trash.
