McConnell and Brue’s Microeconomics: Principles, Problems, and Policies is the leading Principles of Microeconomics textbook. It continues to be innovative while teaching students in a clear, unbiased way. The 18th Edition builds upon the tradition of leadership by sticking to 3 main goals: help the beginning student master the principles essential for understanding the economizing problem, specific economic issues, and the policy alternatives; help the student understand and apply the economic perspective and reason accurately and objectively about economic matters; and promote a lasting student interest in economics and the economy.

About the Author

Sean is an assistant professor of economics at Scripps College in Claremont, California. He is the author of the international best seller "Economics for Dummies" as well as the coauthor, along with Campbell McConnell and Stanley Brue, of the world's best-selling college economics textbook, "Economics: Principles, Problems, and Policies".

An avid martial artist, Sean is a former Aikido national champion and has coached five of his students to U.S. national aikido titles.

A recurring commentator on FOX Business, ABC News, and NPR, Sean holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. in economics from U.C. Berkeley, where he completed his dissertation under the supervision of Nobel Laureate George Akerlof.

Sean's research focuses on the often puzzling and seemingly irrational behavior of stock market investors, but he's also investigated topics as wide-ranging as the factors that affect customer tipping behavior at restaurants and why you see a lot of unionized workers only in certain industries.

This review is from: Microeconomics (Paperback)
My biggest advice to all of you, find a class that uses a different textbook.

As an economic major student with an "A" in both micro and macro and compared to other econ textbooks I find this textbook a nightmare. The book isn't boring, I will give it that much. But it's extremely jumpy, it jumps around a lot from page to page and almost every time it talks about a graph, that specific graph would be several pages backwards or forward. Also the definitions that it gives you during the reading is a bit different in the glossary, so you have to play around with the words a lot until you actually get it. The homework questions are just stupid, it's so open to interpretation and so broad. It also lacks the mathematics of economics - it doesn't give a lot of examples with numbers. The book is heavily dependent on theories and it DOESN'T explain ALL the formulas that economists use. The author would also be explaining a subject and suddenly get carried away, then a few paragraphs later the author would back-track. There's also no coherent pattern that the textbook follows, it's just a bunch of information clumped up together and spread across hundreds of pages of paper.

It's not economics, it's voodoo economics.

I Thought that I would need a newer edition as this is the second newest but as it turns out my professor is a nice guy and uses this one as well so students dont have to pay an arm and a leg. Pretty simple and straight to the point textbook. I like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Microeconomics, February 20, 2011
This review is from: Microeconomics (Paperback)
This version of the Microeconomics textbook was reccomended for me for my entry level microeconomics course. The book itself is very helpful and makes it easy to bettter understand the professor's lectures.

The seller shipped the book very quickly after it was purchased and I recieved it in a timely manner and in good condition, the book was well packaged for shipping, and priced very reasonably. Thanks!
