5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing comprehensive review!, July 14, 2010
This review is from: 5 Steps to a 5 AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics, 2010-2011 Edition (5 Steps to a 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations Series) (Paperback)
My AP Econ teacher wanted us to buy this book as a replacement to the textbook but in the end decided to use the other McGraw Hill review guide. But I had already bought this.

I was frustrated with some concepts so I turned to this book as a last resort.

BEST BOOK EVER.

It is written in colloquial terms. This book really helped me understand Micro and Macro. I used this book according to what we were doing in class throughout the year. I hilighted like crazy and made tons of notes also.

It helped me do so well in the class, especially the tests.

When it came time for the AP Exams, I reread this book. I went back and read everything, made flash cards, reread my sidenotes.

I got my exam results back today and I got A 5 ON BOTH EXAMS! :]

It is a very comprehensive guide. Although, like with most concepts, you have to reread chapters several times. But that's not because of the book but because Economics the subject.

If you are deciding between any other book and this one, and you are the detail-oriented and/or studious type who likes things explained step-by-step then BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars great review overall, June 21, 2010

This review is from: 5 Steps to a 5 AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics, 2010-2011 Edition (5 Steps to a 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations Series) (Paperback)
hey, so I took ap micro and ap macro last May. 5 steps to a 5 has done a great job on reviewing the topics. The practice problems and practice exams are well representative to the real exam. I was shocked to see how similar the free responses were on the real AP exam. They were almost the same. Piece of advice, know how to do every single question in the practice exam and you will do well on the AP exam. Don't think that it won't appear on the test, because it will. The only problem I had was that ap micro was after ap macro and I didn't have time to go back and review ap micro plus this year's micro was harder than previous year. I thought I had a solid 5, but I think I am either getting a 3 or 4. However, I am pretty confident that I am getting a 5 on ap macro. Great book, buy it and you won't regret.

edit: I got 5 on both micro and macro, buy this book

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Steps > Princeton Review, July 18, 2011
This review is from: 5 Steps to a 5 AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics, 2010-2011 Edition (5 Steps to a 5 on the Advanced Placement Examinations Series) (Paperback)
Intending to self study AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics, I bought Princeton Review, along with Mankiw, to more or less teach me all of AP Economics. I analyzed it for weeks, and in the end I had accumulated a forty page (typed!) outline. So there, nobody can say I didn't give Princeton Review a fair chance. About a week before the AP exams, I had a panic attack and ran out and bought 5 Steps to a Five for AP Economics. It was clearly superior to Princeton Review, being much more neatly organized and having better explanations, as well as emphasizing the more important concepts more clearly.
But hey, don't get me wrong! Princeton Review had all of the concepts in it; they just weren't as well presented. In fact, I more than likely learned most of what was needed for the exam by outlining Princeton Review. But if I had to recommend a Prep Book, Princeton Review wouldn't be the one. 5 Steps is clearer, better explained, and a lot more readable in my opinion.
For the record, self studying using Mankiw, Princeton Review, and 5 steps I ended up getting 5's in Micro and Macro. If you're self studying, you probably need all the prep books you can get. But if you took a class, 5 steps is the way to go.

(A slightly edited version of my review for the Princeton Review prep book)
