"Split," NOT "Excerpt": An Excellent Micro Text,
By A. O. Rosenberg "Economics Professor" (Mission Viejo, CA United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Microeconomics (Paperback)
Samuel Weber's review implies this book is an excerpt; it's not. Microeconomics and macroeconomics are completely different subjects; the courses share only a few introductory chapters (e.g., supply and demand; production possibilities).
Since they're different subjects, in most universities, they're taught by different professors, and students DON'T have the luxury of buying the big "Economics" book and having it last for two courses. I use K/W for micro; I think only one fellow prof uses K/W for macro. So Mr. Weber's comment is no more true for this book than any other mainstream text. Some good features of this book: (1) a separate chapter on decision-making, differentiating discrete from marginal (yes/no from "how much") choice; (2)choice under uncertainty, including discussion of risk tolerance and insurance; (3) situations when buyers know more about the product than sellers, or vice versa (issues: "lemons," supervision of workers, warranties); (4) a chapter on the economics of technology; (5) interesting stories to start each chapter (such as London's pre-sewer "Great Stink of 1858") (6) a mainstream focus in spite of Krugman's role as a political/econ

So far I have used the first three chapter in the book. I am thankful for the way terms are connected with common life experiences. I see the book uses a baby step way of learning the terms. I think this gives me time to think about the terms for a moment and get a grasp on the topic. I can see this being annoying for someone who just wants to get through the material.

It is a used book. So I didnt expect too much for it. It is good enough for me and there isn't much handwriting. That is nice. And the price is not too execpensive but I wish it was a little lower.

This book is great when it comes to studying microeconmics (especially for beginners, like i was). The content is easy to understand and the examples are pretty catchy so you can remind yourself of the theories easier. I can only recommend this book for studying, as long as you are not in too deep into microeconomics already. But for starting, it was a good book.

The book is great, but it's bait-and-switch on the trade-in,
By Shannon Smith Hartwell (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Microeconomics (Paperback)
I ordered this book for my college sophomore through the Amazon buy/trade-in program. Because the text was $152. at the time of purchase with a $94. trade-in value, I chose Amazon to provide it. I could have rented it from Chegg or another textbook rental company for about $70. Today I tried to trade the book in...and the total amount of trade-in value I could receive was $18.50 with the ISBN on the cover of this textbook. I am furious that Amazon would treat loyal customers this way and I will never purchase a textbook from this site again. There are too many other reputable companies giving students (and their overburdened parents) a break on textbooks now for me to risk the bait-and-switch tactic Amazon demonstrated.

The book I received, I thought it was actual hard cover book, it came in a binder. To me it does not matter; it is in excellent condition, no pages torn, no highlighting, no writing. It has the original cover. Great book for great price. I'm happy.
