The people at Positron! Records have a motto, "This ain't your momma's music." I would have to disagree with them this time, because even my momma loved Micronaut.

This album is an excellent example of the future of electronic music. Chris Randall took a very big step away from the music of Sister Machine Gun with the release of this album. While SMG tends to be more industrial and instrument oriented, this album took a voyage into "sound."

The twelve tracks on Micronaut blend together to form a space-like ambiance that takes the listener through a wide range of electronic emotions. The setting grows from a quiet ambient flow during the first ten minutes, to a fast paced rush during the "Clones" sequence. Like the plot of a good movie, the tracks continue to build until they finally climax at the appropriately titled track 12 Minutes. This is definitely one of the best songs on the album, 12 Minutes is a very creative sound I can only describe as trying to listen to an Indian snake charmer on acid. The last track acts as a buffer between the audio world Randall created, and the real world in which we live. It is as if the listener is being slowly returned to earth in an enormous space ship of harmonic waves.

In all, this album represents a spectacular electronic experimentation by Chris Randall. The songs can have different effects on a person depending on the desired results. If one is looking for an album to dance to, Micronaut is that album. If a person is looking for an album to relax with, Micronaut is also that album. When all is said and done, Micronaut is well worth the money spent. Anybody who appreciates music will love this album. --Jo
