Microphone recommendations for Kodak Zi8? What recommendations are there for external microphones to use with the Kodak Zi8? In my case, lapel mics are liable to be of little use. I'd prefer a good omnidirectional mic. I'm thinking that I need to rig up a handle - a handle on to which the Zi8 will be attached - and attach the mic to that.

Thanks for any specific microphone suggestions.

If you want to spend a little more money for higher quality audio - I have this setup and it works great:

a small high quality Audio-Technica stereo mic:
Audio-Technica PRO24CM Camera-Mount Stereo Condenser Microphone

with an excellent mounting bracket

I bought a "cheap" ebay Sony ECM-DS70P Electret Condenser Stereo Microphone and it works really well.

I have now received my Zi8 and purchased a Sony ECM DS30P mic. I also bought a right-angle 3.5mm adapter, which positions the mic nicely, on the camera. Preliminary experimentation seems to indicate this arrangement will work well, particularly since the Zi8 has an adjustable mic gain.

Guys I just bought the zi6 and realized that the sound qualify wasn't very good so thinking about returning it and buying the zi8. What would you be the best microphone to buy if I'm doing some recordings for youtube and sound qualify is pretty important? Something that allows you to be 8 feet from the camera and still have good sound quality. Maybe a lapel mic?
What do you recommend?

A $37 Dynex LED lamp is ultra portable and runs on 2 AAA batteries. It only illuminates about 2' in front of the camera, so having a wide angle lens really helps. The white LED is very "flattening" to subjects lit by it, though.

Heck, you could even pick up one of these if you're desperate:

For fixed or staged shots, pick up some Halogen shop lights from Home Depot or Lowes for under $20 and make your own diffuser or aim them at a white wall.

I bought the DS70P specified here for the $4.00 and have had pretty good luck with it. I record mostly live music and it could be better, so I am breaking down and buying the Zoom H4n to see how that works. I'll post with results.

Here is live music with the DS70P and Zi8:
