4.0 out of 5 stars An ounce of prevention . . . .
I too bought this glove to use with my mandoline slicer, but now that I have it I use it with my microplane and other food graters as well. I thought it might be a bit cumbersome, but it's not at all. I think it's important to remember that this glove is cut RESISTANT, not cut proof.

The glove fits my hand very well, but I can see that it might be too small...

3.0 out of 5 stars Off-brand.
Consistent with other recent reviews, the item I received is not a Microplane 34007. Branded "G&F Products" and made in China (isn't everything?), the package includes a model number (1913), a "Blade X5(tm)" mark (sounds fancy!), and promises "Fits Either Hands" [sic]. It also boasts "Next Generation Cut Protection Glove in Kitchen," which must exceed last generation...

I too bought this glove to use with my mandoline slicer, but now that I have it I use it with my microplane and other food graters as well. I thought it might be a bit cumbersome, but it's not at all. I think it's important to remember that this glove is cut RESISTANT, not cut proof.

The glove fits my hand very well, but I can see that it might be too small for others. I normally wear a woman's size small glove. This microplane glove is quite flexible though, and I'm certain it would easily fit a woman's size medium or even large. One man's review here indicates he struggled but managed to get it on his bigger hand. I agree there should be one or two other size options, and this is the only reason I didn't give this a 5-star rating.

It goes without saying that the glove will need cleaning after using it to hold food against a slicer or grater. It is machine washable, but not machine dryable. Here's what I do to clean the glove in between machines washings ==> with the glove still on my hand, I squeeze some liquid soap onto the fingertips of the glove and then wash it under warm running water with the help of a small kitchen cleaning brush. . .glove still on, I give it a rinse, blot most of the water off with a hand towel, then let it air dry. I've had no problem with lingering odors using this or the machine method of washing.

Although expensive, this glove is a time and hand saver! I use it regularly when slicing horizontally into onions, shallots, etc. to protect me from cuts when the knife blade slips. It also works great for protecting my fingers and fingernails when I grate cheese on a box grater. Using the Microplane glove means that I can grate gruyere right down to the rind and avoid nicking my fingers up or having nail polish chips getting into the food.

I absolutly love this. I bought this to use with my mandolin. It's a piece of mind knowing that in case I slip with the guard, I have this glove as backup. I think in the near future I'll buy another glove for the othr hand, just in case I forget and do something stupid with the other hand! Getting cut is no picnic. For me it takes about a week to heal (minor cuts/no tendons involved) and doing my daily chores takes forever.

I honestly don't have any basis for evaluating the quality of this glove, because I'm sending it back unopened. But it looks similar to what G&F sells on their own site (workglovesdepot) for ten bucks a pair (this was fifteen for one glove).

This item is sold by a third party (HTW). You will not get a Microplane product. I sent mine back.

I ordered 2 pairs of microplane gloves, I recieved two pairs one only being microplane the other another brand, with a label produced by this company saying it was a microplane. These two gloves are obviously different. I would be leary dealing with this company.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works well, too small, February 11, 2010

My biggest complaint with this product is that it only comes in one size, and it is very tight on my hand. Other than that, it works well in protecting from sharp edges (it provides no protection from sharp point puncture wounds). For certain tasks where injury is likely, this is a valuable tool (knife sharpening, mandolin usage, grating, fine slicing). I keep my knives VERY sharp, and while I rarely injure myself, the risk of a significant injury is always in the back of my mind. So, while I do not use the glove much of the time, I am glad to have it for those activities when I feel particularly at risk.

I had the same bad experience as the reviewers who dealt with HTW. I did NOT receive the Microplane brand glove listed and described. Instead I received a different brand glove. Unfortunately I didn't do my research by reading the reviews for HTW before buying. If I had, I wouldn't have made the purchase. The one good thing was that the return process was fairly simple. Hopefully Amazon will make the proper adjustments with this product and seller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product - Please make an XL size!!!, March 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This product really works. I suppose if you tried really hard you could cut yourself while wearing them. But in normal use, they do help prevent those nasty kitchen finger slices.

As other reviewers have said, they are "one size fits most". I have XL hands, and they're a pretty tight fit. Still, they are worth the effort to get them on. I like to put a little of myself into everything I do, except when I'm cooking!

I use this glove when using my mandoline in the kitchen & I'm sure it's helping me keep all my fingers intact & knick-free. I have very small hands & the fingers are a bit long, but not so much that it's unusable, which is fantastic for me. I think it might be small if you had very large hands. But I love it- great glove if you're working with sharp things!
