This is a fantastic tool. It grates nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and other hard spices with ease, and without the risk of scraping your knuckles either. It's dishwasher safe and small enough to not take up valuable kitchen space. The drawback to this gadget for me is the fact that its usefulness is limited. In my opinion, it's much too small to grate cheeses, citrus zests, chocolate etc, so I have a separate microplane to tackle those jobs. Nonetheless, it's a welcome addition to my kitchen and I'm sure it would be to yours.

I hesitated for a long time before I bought one of these. I mean, really - a grater is just a grater, right? Wrong! This thing is worlds better than the standard graters I'd been using all my life. It makes grating hard cheeses (i.e., parmesan) and spices (i.e., nutmeg) so much easier it's truly amazing. I love this thing and find more uses for it all the time. A quick rinse under running water is all it needs for most cleanup. And, it's much harder to grate your own fingers with this than the old box-grater. Highly recommended!

I love this grater. It really shows nutmeg who's the boss. However, don't get over-confident and think you can use this for cinnamon. Cinnamon has to be ground professionally. I would also recommend using a larger model for ginger, if you have one.

Easy clean up, I just toss mine in the dishwasher.

I'm so glad I got this. I was really having a hard time getting the most zest from my expensive lemons and they are these days! I needed a tool to help me get the most without getting the bitter rind in the zest. I was using a grater and just a serrated knife but that was just not working for me. This is a handy tool for getting the most zest for your money and making a tricky chore much easier. It came right away in perfect condition.

This handy little gadget will not only save time but will also save your finger tips from certain injury! A spice grater is a must for those who cook with nutmeg, cinnamom sticks, and even pepper corns. Though a coffee mill may seem an east way to grind these often you need a more controlled grate as opposed to pulverizing the spices. This is where this gadget works best. The handle is also excellent and easy to grip which is important as this is certainly small work. In the end just throw it in your dishwasher and the work is done simply and easily!

we should have had this years ago as it would have saved me getting cut fingers!!! I love it, easy to use and your fingers never touch the surface of the microplane, nutmeg glides over it and its perfect!!i would highly recommend this to anyone who grates their own spices.

I use same type of tool for woodworking. Easily grates whole nutmeg to a nice consistency.

I love this grater. It's small, lightweight and easy to hold. I use it to grate ginger. Unlike other graters, when I tap this one, all the grated ginger falls right out. It comes with a plastic cover which protects both the grater so it won't dull as well as my hands when I reach into the drawer for another tool.

I bought it to grind cinnamon. It's not very good for that. I'm pretty good at grinding my fingers, though. I saw it advertised as for cinnamon- no. Try something else. Would probably be great for ginger, or other things that are less hard than cinnamon bark.

This is a great (or grate, heh!) little microplane grater. It isn't as sturdy as I expected--it feels very light and seems fragile, but it is not. I've grated nutmeg and ginger with it, and it works wonderfully, producing finely-grated spices. The curved design ensures that the spices fall exactly where you want them too, so if you use this dust food items for presentation, you have a good deal of control. This grater would also work well for hard, dry cheeses like parmesan, too, in smallish quantities.

To address a point another reviewer made, this is a spice grater, and while it certainly can be used to zest citrus peel (I tried it just before writing this review), the actual grating surface is very very narrow and the surface curved. If you want just a teensy amount of citrus zest in your recipe, it works beautifully (though you have to scoop the zest out with your finger because of the curved design). For example, if you want to sprinkle zest for a garnish on a cocktail, dessert, or savory dish, it would be okay (again, though, the zest, because it's wet, sort of clumps in the curved part of the grater, so it's not a dusting as you get with a spice or hard cheese). If you want a lot of citrus zest, it would be much more time-efficient to get a citrus zester (they have a larger, flatter grating surface) or to use one of your graters that you use for cheese.

It is what it claims to be: a fine little spice grater. For some reason, my order didn't come with a safety cover, but this is not a problem for me. If you are considering this item in part because of the safety cover, you may need to contact the seller if it's not included. Just a heads up.
