MICROSOFT ACCESS 2000 STEP BY STEP is the easiest and fastest way to teach yourself to use the latest version of Microsoft’s powerful relational database program. Work through every lesson to complete the full course, or do individual lessons to learn just the skills you need. Either way, you learn at your optimum pace from the teacher who knows you best—you.

With this book and Microsoft Access 2000, you’ll learn to:

  • Enter and view data—view, add, and edit data using forms and tables; sort and filter records; preview and print reports; create mailing labels
  • Create and expand databases—create new tables; relate tables and databases; work with external data
  • Turn data into meaningful information—design queries and analyze data; merge data from two tables into one form
  • Refine your database—customize forms and reports; present reports more effectively; present grouped data in a report
  • Take your database to the world—create a set of interactive data access pages with the data access page designer; use the Office Web components with your other Office programs

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

These days, information is the key to success in any endeavor, and powerful database systems make managing and storing data easier. Microsoft Office comes with Access, a powerful database application that makes your information manageable and comprehensible. Microsoft Access 2000 Step by Step will get you started on the road to database mastery.

Clear instructions, plentiful screenshots, and a CD-ROM full of practice files and multimedia demos of complex maneuvers make this book useful to novices while getting the expert up to speed on the new tools available in the 2000 edition. Though it's not comprehensive--programming for Access and all but the most rudimentary database creation instructions are excluded--it discusses the essential tasks users will need to accomplish.

The 12 lessons cover topics ranging from the basics of forms to advanced data presentation. Each lesson gives a time commitment estimate, learning points, and a reference/review at the end for more efficient instruction. After you've worked through the book, it's simple to return and find exactly the help you need when you're elbow-deep in data and suddenly forget your next step. While it's no reference guide, Microsoft Access 2000 Step by Step will have you running Access like a pro in no time. --Rob Lightner

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets an absolute beginner up and running., February 13, 2001
This review is from: Microsoft® Access 2000 Step by Step (Step by Step (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
This book is aimed at those who are completely new to Access. It will systematically, for the most part, allow a beginner to become familiar with Tables, Forms, Queries,etc... Good examples, CD contains video examples as well. If your new to Access and want to be held by the hand then buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Job!, November 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft® Access 2000 Step by Step (Step by Step (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
I'm disappointed that many people have put down this book because it doesn't teach how to build a database. If you look through the contents, it obviously focuses on using preconstructed databases, not building them. With that in mind, I had never used Access before, bought this book, used it from cover to cover, and based on what I learned got a job that doubled my secretarial salary. I do hope, however, that the authors of this book create an advanced version, because it is only beginner to somewhat intermediate level, but I just loved the fact that the authors did not assume any knowledge on the users' part and still managed to keep me from feeling like I was using one of those awful dummies books.

1.0 out of 5 stars By a good book, April 15, 2000
This review is from: Microsoft® Access 2000 Step by Step (Step by Step (Microsoft)) (Paperback)
If you want to learn something about access 2000, don't by this book. It does not work very sistimaticly. It never goes in any depth. Maybe you can consider bying the book if you have to work with Access, not if you have to make database. I bought another more complete and expensive book. I should have done that in the first place.
