Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

If you need help crunching numbers using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Excel 2000 Bible can take novices or spreadsheet converts to an intermediate level and set regular users well on the road to mastery. So well-organized it could almost be a tutorial, the Bible starts with the basics of spreadsheet creation and navigation and moves on to cover weightier topics like sharing work, publishing data on the Web, and analysis using pivot tables.

You won't have any trouble finding everything you need, and when you do, the text and illustrations will show you the steps necessary to set your data to work. Unfortunately, it doesn't go into quite enough detail on the more advanced topics like Visual Basic programming, but for all but the mightiest data-jockeys it has plenty.

The accompanying CD-ROM has lots to keep you busy too: the complete text of the book, over 30 Excel utilities, custom worksheet functions, and even (why not?) a bunch of games. The 32-page Quick Start book will have you mucking about in spreadsheets in short order. As an overall package, the Microsoft Excel 2000 Bible is hard to beat. --Rob Lightner --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many pages, not too much content..., October 21, 2003
If you are an absolute beginner 80% of this book is for you. If you bought it to explore the capabilities and more complex tools of Excel, you are at a loss. I've been using Excel for 10 years. Mostly for corporate needs in an office environment and as a calculation tool for some of my MBA classes. Bought this one to get more insight, but did not find it useful. Most of the pages are spent to describe the simplest of tasks, such as formatting, listing of built-in formulas etc...
Won't recommend to intermediate and up users...

Good day!

4.0 out of 5 stars Read the back cover, July 29, 2001
By A Customer
I believe this book is a great book. However, people who buys it are not aware that the book is for intermediate level. It is assumed by the author that they should have a basic knowledge of how to use excel. Please read the title, and the back cover page to let you know for who it is written. This book was not written for beginners, do not give a bad review about it if you do not know how to use excel at all. Buy a book that is for you. a beginner level book not a beginner to intermediate level.

I agree with the previous reviewer that the book is logically organized poorly for referencing certain operations. I think this is a very small drawback for the amount of information that this one source provides.

I've had to read it cover to cover and I find it to be very easy to understand and covers all of the basic and intermediate operations that I would use. It also covers strategies for building your own applications with Excel (both 97 and 2000). It will not gather much dust on my bookshelf.
