3.0 out of 5 stars CD was incomplete...MS won't replace for free.
The book is well written and is a good technical reference tool for Project 2007, though it can be overwhelming in terms if the sheer amount of information. The big disappointment with the book was the fact that the CD was incomplete. It did not have an ebook copy as advertised. I called MS Press and they wanted $30 to replace it. That's indefensible. I won't be buying...

This review is from: Microsoft® Office Project 2007 Inside Out (Paperback)
This is the clearest, most detailed, and best written book on Microsoft Project I've read. The outline is logical and it's easy to read as you build you project schedule. Each topic is covered in detail and the explanations are understandable.

I expected to find a lot more details and tips and tricks. Many little features and things I was trying to find out how to do were not in the book, and I had to go online to search on the Internet. Not sure I would recommend this book to anyone other than those who have not used MS Project before, but for the typical user who needs to check on some basic features or custom, this book is not the one for them. The title is a bit hyped, a better name would be "How to Use MS Project"

5.0 out of 5 stars Best resource for day-to-day use, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Microsoft® Office Project 2007 Inside Out (Paperback)
This is the best resource out there for day-to-day use. It's easy to find the topic you need, and it gives you the full set of steps to carry out the work, unlike other books I've used for this software that I find leave you hanging at some point. I still use the internet for problems as I'm working, too, but I don't think there's another book out there that gives you the nuts and bolts, how-to-use steps, like this book does. Project is such a quirky software, but highly useful if you know how to use it, which this book leads you to directly.

It gives tremendous information and helps in many ways;
however, I lost my intersts in reading due to too much information.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book to have on PM's library, June 26, 2008
This review is from: Microsoft® Office Project 2007 Inside Out (Paperback)
I love Microsoft Project 2007.

I know there are other tools that can do better job in some PM areas, but I love MS Project for its simplicity, ease of use, and its ubiquitousness.

The 2007 version, in my opinion, does not break any miraculous new ground, but it does have cool new features such as multiple undos, better tracking with change highlights, better calendar, task drivers etc. - little stuffs that make PMs happy.

I extensively use CA's Clarity (previously called Niku) as well. It is a powerful tool and quite a good one, but not as agile as I would like by itself. Fortunately, my PMO has integrated Project with Clarity, which has consequently made my life much easier. Of course, had they integrated Open Workbench, that would've been a viable alternative as well - plus significantly cheaper - but not as powerful. OR you could just go for the whole shebang and invest on Microsoft's EPM solution.

Anyway, whether you are just a curious person who likes to know what the Project Managers are talking about around the watercooler or a Project Manager who wants to do things faster/quicker/better or a PMO Director who wants to be at the forefront of our trade, Microsoft Project 2007 is worth exploring. This book can be the worthy first step in that fascinating adventure.

- a PMP's 2 Yen.
